Quiet Time With Jesus – Go Give Generously

Tuesday, 8 January 2019

A new project has captured my mind. Day and night, I was thinking about the project - What can we/I do? How? When? Who? These questions flooded my mind and thoughts raced from one idea to another. I must write it down otherwise these ideas will just run through and disappear. [Lord, if the ideas are not from You, help me to let go. If the ideas are from You, help me not to let go. Thank You, God! Amen!]

Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So WHEN YOU GIVE (not IF you give), do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
— Matthew 6:14

For the first time, I saw the words ‘WHEN YOU GIVE’ and realized that Jesus did not say ‘IF YOU GIVE’. In other words, He expects us to give and He is teaching us how to give.

God is the most generous Giver! He is the Greatest Giver! He gave us His one and only begotten Son. He gives and He gives and He gives. We will receive IF we choose to receive. Yes! He gives us free choice to choose whether we want to receive His Gift.

I tend to analyze and judge a person before giving - whether he deserves it or not. Today, the Holy Spirit spoke into my heart, “If God were to judge every person, He would not give anything at all.” How true! We have all fallen short of His glory. He made us perfect – in His image – what have we done? We must restore the image so that mankind will once again reflect the glory of God. Amen!

Let Christians give not because so-and-so deserves it but because so-and-so is LOVED BY GOD. Romans 12 tells us how to live as living sacrifices and verse 8 says: We have different gifts, according to the grace given us… if it is contributing to the needs of others, LET HIM GIVE GENEROUSLY.

He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.
— Proverbs 28:27

My Prayer

Thank You God for giving us the Greatest Gift – the Gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ. When we receive Christ, we will receive everything we need.

Apostle Paul said, “Whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.” Father, you sent Paul to tell us that everything is a loss compared to the SURPASSING GREATNESS of KNOWING CHRIST JESUS.

Father, hear my prayer: I also want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, and so, somehow, attain to the resurrection from the dead. (Philippians 3:7-11) Amen!

Song: All I Once Held Dear (Robin Mark)

All I once held dear built my life upon / All this world reveres and wars to own / All I once thought gain I have counted loss / Spent and worthless now compared to this / Knowing You, Jesus knowing You / There is no greater thing / You’re my all You’re the best / You’re my joy my righteousness / And I love You, Lord / Now my heart’s desire is to know You more / To be found in You and known as Yours / To possess by faith what I could not earn / All surpassing gift of righteousness / Knowing You, Jesus knowing You / There is no greater thing / You’re my all You’re the best / You’re my joy my righteousness / And I love you, Lord / Oh, to know the power of your risen life / And to know You in Your sufferings / To become like You in Your death, my Lord / So with You to live and never die / Knowing You, Jesus knowing You / There is no greater thing / You’re my all You’re the best / You’re my joy my righteousness / And I love You, Lord / And I love You, Lord / And I love You, Lord…

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path
— Psalm 119:105

I came to know Christ at the age of 46. Many times I had wished that I know Him earlier i.e. when I was a child. If I had attended Sunday school I would have gone through Bible lessons and memorised Bible verses. Today, I am still grumbling that I cannot remember Bible verses.

When a baby is born, we feed him (her). We make sure that he (she) gets the nutrition he needs to grow strong and healthy.

In 1999, I was walking in darkness until the light of God shone into my life. From then on, I followed His light… The Bible says: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). I let go of the past and allowed the Holy Spirit to guide me. My favorite verses are: Colossians 3:1 – 4:6.

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Thank You for Your saving grace. I was lost but now I’m found. I was sick but now I’m healed. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. What I want is not to see wonders that dazzle me and to be rapt in ecstatic visions and splendors, but a little light on the path I tread, a lamp that will burn steadfastly and helpfully over the work that I have to do.

Amen.

I like what I read this morning: We are walkers through the city of this world, and we are often called to go out into its darkness; let us never venture there without the light giving word, lest we slip with our feet. Each man should use the word of God personally, practically and habitually, that he may see his way and see what lies in it.

My New Year resolution is to give at least 10% of my time to God, sit at Jesus’ feet and learn from Him.

Quiet Time With Jesus – Endure

Sunday, 6 January 2019

To be able to endure means that we are able to suffer patiently. Christians expect persecution. As we abide in Christ and persevere in sharing the Good News of salvation, we know our God is with us through it all.

Sometimes, a success on the surface may not be a true success, and a failure may not be a failure in God’s eyes. An excellent example is the crucifixion and death of our Lord and Savior.

Can you imagine how His family, friends and followers felt during that painful and most difficult time?

Who can comprehend that it is God’s will to crush Jesus and cause Him to suffer? (Isaiah 53)

What would you do when you suffer?

All men will hate you because of Me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another.
— Matthew 10:22

Jesus said ‘do not be afraid’ three times - verses 26, 28 and 31. He also said that anyone who does not take his cross and follow Him is not worthy of Him. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for Christ’s sake will find it. (Matthew 10:38-39)

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

You are sovereign. You are in complete control of every trial, every test and every temptation. You are watching every persecution, every moment of pain and sorrow and suffering, and our every response to the difficulties.

Father God, You are not confused by circumstances. You are pure and holy. Your values are never compromised. You are Who You are! You are our Creator, Redeemer, our Father who is unchangeable and unstoppable. Your love endures forever. Amen!

Dr Charles Stanley said that ‘untried faith is unreliable faith’. May we rejoice when our faith is tested. Thank You Father God!

We are not afraid to tell You when we are afraid. Our fear cannot be hidden from Your eyes. You know how much we can take and You will intervene at the right time. We trust in Your perfect timing. We can strive on our own strength and gain a little but if we lean on You, we will surely gain much because we will accomplish what You have planned for us. Hallelujah!

Father, we thank You that You are conforming us to the likeness of Your Son. We are pre-destined to look like Jesus on the inside – His Spirit, His humility, His faith, His courage, His commitment… The list goes on. When we surrender and submit our whole being – spirit, soul and body – to You and You alone, we will grow by leaps and bounds in our relationship with You. What a wonderful picture! Therefore, I pray with all my heart that You continually help us to endure whatever comes our way.

Help us to persevere in unceasing prayer to restore mankind according to Your divine plan. Hallelujah! Amen!
