ATTAINING PEACE AND PROVISION IN ALL SITUATIONS

30 January 2021

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

— Psalm 23:1

A shepherd's main responsibility is the safety and welfare of his flock.

We, his sheep, will stay protected as long as we acknowledge God as Lord.

Truth is, God is in control of everything. But we are also given free will just like:

- Satan swelling with pride, denied the Lord and influenced other angels to rebel against God.

- Eve who was tempted by Satan and chose to believe that the tree was to be desired to make one wise instead of listening to God.

Just like the angels and Eve, it’s very clear that when we choose not to let GOD lead us, we are choosing to be led by Satan which capitalizes on our selfish desires to deceive us.

Let's ask ourselves truthfully as to who or what is leading our lives today?

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us.

Lord, please always lead us and keep us from harm, sin and evil.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

FAITH IN GOD GIVES US HOPE IN LIFE

29 January 2021

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

— Romans 10:17

Friends, it’s hard to have faith in things we do not know about.

We constantly research about our kids’ education, career path or business but seldom think about how we can grow our faith.

We can be encouraged by each others’ faith but nobody else can grow our faith unless we take the leap of faith ourselves.

It may not came naturally at the beginning but we can start by:

- Spending short moments with God throughout the day through prayer of "Request" or "Thanksgiving".

- Devote gradual progressive steps to reading the Bible consistently.

Through faith, we can access the peace and joy that comes from a restored relationship with our heavenly Father.

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for Your grace and mercy upon us.

Lord, please open our eyes and heart so that we look to Your word as guidance in our lives!!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

WINNING OVER WORRY

28 January 2021

“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

— Matthew 6:27

It’s too easy to be overwhelmed by fear and anxiety daily when we see what's happening in the world today.

Essentially, being anxious is thinking we can control a situation by worrying about it when we are actually not in control at all.

This is exactly what the devil wants for us to worry, get stressed and lean on ourselves instead of God.

Let’s remember that God’s grace is big enough to meet us whichever phase of life we are at and provide us with wisdom and discernment!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us even before we knew You.

Lord, please teach us to come to know You, our almighty God deeper so that we lean on You and know that we can rest in Your arms and depend on You with every aspect of our lives.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

A PRAYERFUL LIFE IS KEY TO INCREASING FAITH

27 January 2021

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him

— Hebrews 11:6

Believing in Faith is confidence in God’s power and provides expectant hope/assurance for our future.

It is transformational and allows the teachings of Lord Jesus to work in our lives giving us a fulfilling life.

When having doubts/trouble with our faith, the Bible teaches that it is most effective to ask God for help:

- The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5)

- Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24)

We have our part to draw near to God but let’s also remember that He has the ultimate power to bring us into closer relationship with Him!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for saving us through Your son Jesus.

Lord, we ask that You increase our faith so that we can block the arrows of distraction that the devil throws in our daily living!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

LIVING OUT OUR PURPOSE IN LIFE

26 January 2021

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted

— Job 42:2

Are we struggling to find purpose in life? The problem comes when we link our identity to worldly accomplishments or possessions.

Have we been opposing God’s purpose and plan for us by looking:

- OUTWARDLY through comparisons with others or society norms instead of;

- UPWARDLY to our powerful and mighty God who has control of everything.

God has a unique plan for each and every of our individual lives. What seems right or good for one may not be for the other.

May we find hope in God's Grace and ask Him to teach us to trust in Him even though "His Ways may not be our Ways" and "His Thoughts may not be our Thoughts".

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for being our solid foundation; always unchanging.

Lord, we ask that You always guide us and lead us so that we come to know Your plans for us in our daily lives!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH

25 January 2021

“But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.

— 1 Timothy 6:11

Fighting the good fight of faith = to abiding in the Word regardless of what we feel, understand or see happening in the world today.

Due to our inherited sinful nature, we have passions and desires that do not want to acknowledge this fight as it involves sacrifices.

Truth is, we all have something, money, status, possessions or even family we choose to place above Jesus everyday.

There is no way we can proclaim our freedom in Christ if we still choose to live like how we are before knowing Him.

Friends, let’s not turn God’s forgiveness and grace into an excuse for continual indulgence of our old ways.

Instead, let’s draw divine strength from the Holy Spirit living in us to live a life pleasing to God!!

Is there something we are treasuring over Jesus today?

Prayer

Dear God our Lord, we thank You for sending Jesus who is perfect to be the one-time payment for our sins so that we now walk righteous before You in Christ!!

Lord, we ask that You give us self control so that we learn that obedience to Your word = life transformation!!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

BEING RUDE MISSES THE MARK OF LOVE

23 January 2021

“And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them

— Luke 6:31

Love is not being rude! I wish I could say that I never acted rudely, but that would be a lie as there are times my words are harsh towards my wife and the kids.

That's why we need the grace of God to first change us in order for us to reflect it to others.

It's most needed in the midst of our broken world of earning and merit. All these result in judgment.

Friends, JUDGEMENT destroys. GRACE builds.

Rather than doing to others what they did to us, let's treat them the way we want them to treat us.

One practical way to love others better is to imagine ourselves in their shoes.

Pausing to think how we might like to be treated in a certain situation, we build empathy for those actually living in it.

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us even before we knew You.

Lord, we ask that You grant us a spirit of empathy and selflessness so that we can reflect Your kindness to others.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

SIMPLE LIVING IN OUR COMPLICATED WORLD

22 January 2021

“For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.

— Ecclesiastes 7:1

Living in a stressful consumer driven world, many are seeking happiness by decluttering their lives.

Clutter is anything that gets between us and the life we want to be living.

As such, work becomes a love/hate relationship for us as it provides the means for survival yet wears us out emotionally and physically.

Instead of preserving our lives, it drains us by not allowing us to savour the sweetness of life.

That's why this verse stood out so much to me, it does not say that money is nonessential but for us to seek Godly wisdom over our own!!

We then truly experience the goodness of life and sustainable joy through his guidance.

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for Your almighty creations and things for our enjoyment.

Lord, we ask for wisdom to be upon us so that we know and sense Your plan and direction for us.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

GUARDING OUR HEART = AN INTENTIONAL WALK WITH GOD

21 January 2020

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

— Proverbs 4:23

Our heart is the:

- Core and essence of who we are

- Origin of our desires and passions

Today, we focus so much on guarding our work, financial, belongings and family that we neglect guarding our heart.

Not guarding our heart, we open ourselves up to attacks of pride, bad habits, sin that weigh us down.

The Bible teaches us to "Put into practice what we learned and received from God’s Word."

Then, we live peaceful and healthier lives.

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us.

Lord, we ask for our hearts to be opened and minds renewed so by Your grace, we will put Your Word into practice by the power of the Holy Spirit!!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

GRACIOUS SPEECH CHANGES US AND OTHERS

18 January 2021

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen

— Ephesians 4:29

A careless or careful word can immensely impact people around us.

Thoughtless words come out:

- Externally: Either to people we interact with or behind people's back (gossip)

- Internally: To our children, spouse or family during dispute or discipline.

Let’s remember that true love doesn't attack personally or run down one's reputation. Instead, it always encourages by applying the following in our thought process:

1) Talk less: Resist the urge to jump to conclusion quickly.

2) Listen more: Understand more about the person’s needs.

3) Building up: Words to say to encourage or make a positive improvement in ones life.

Are we speaking "Constructively" or "Destructively" today?

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our loving Father, we thank You for being kind and merciful to us.

Lord, please use us everyday as a vessel to show Your love to others through our speech and thoughts.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

THE ART OF BEING NON-JUDGEMENTAL

15 January 2021

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others

— Philippians 2:3-4

Selfish ambition means allowing our actions to be motivated by "Pride".

Humility comes from being people-focused, not self-focused.

Putting others first, it’s hard to be self-important or prideful when we see others as important as well.

Love is self-sacrificial and it acts for the best of others rather than for own glory.

Let's remember that Jesus loves us regardless of financial status or family background.

Let’s remember that the Son of God became human, humbled himself to the lowliest position and died a shameful criminal’s death in our place.

Considering what Christ did for us, we learn not to be self-absorbed.

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our loving Father, we thank You for loving us to save us through Jesus Christ and not condemning us.

Lord, as we meet different people and face different situations, please give us patience and grace so that others may see You through us!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Reflection:

1) Define a situation that you may have been selfish in recently.

2) Put yourself in that person's shoes and reflect on how it feels to be in it.

WHAT WE READ IMPACTS OUR LIVES!

14 January 2021

“And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers

— 1 Thessalonians 2:13

We are impacted by what we read daily from news to self-improvement articles, etc.

We read to learn more and be equipped with knowledge to prepare for life and find solutions to handle situations.

Have we made effort to read the Bible that is literally God-breathed ?

Truth is, God’s Word already lies answers about life (our purpose, why is the world full of evil and is there life after death).

The Bible is compared to a seed when taken root in our heart begins to grow and bear fruit, in turn changing our lives for the better.

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our loving Father, we thank You for Your life-changing Word made available in different formats for us today.

Lord, we ask that You give us wisdom and understanding so that Your Word will take root in our hearts and transform our lives!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Reflection:

1) Have we tried googling worry, marriage, money, anger related Bible verses to see what God can teach us?

ARE WE COVETING OR CONTENTED TODAY?

13 January 2021

“I know what it is to be in NEED, and I know what it is to have PLENTY. I have learned the SECRET of being CONTENT in ANY and EVERY situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

— Philippians 4:12

In Singapore's competitive landscape, it's very easy to covet or base our successes or failures on how others are doing.

Either way, nothing good comes out of comparing ourselves to others:

- Feeling like others are better than us, jealousy and self pity will set in.

- Thinking we are better than others, we end up being arrogant, pitying them or feel guilty for comparing.

This does not mean we do not seek improvement but we should bear in mind that everyone's path is different all pre-determined by God.

Our battle against covetousness is as much a battle against unbelief in God’s promise to be all we need.

Let's be encouraged that God provides us contentment in any and every situation from our triumphs to our devastations!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for all that we have.

Lord, as the world tries to tempt us to continually keep up with the joneses, please teach us to live simply, be contented with what we have from You and to give praise for that!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

GOD'S BLESSINGS COME WHEN WE DEVELOP A RESPECTFUL FEAR OF GOD

12 January 2021

“For the angel of the Lord is a guard, he surrounds and defends all who fear him.

— Psalm 34:7

What would we say today if someone asks if we fear the Lord?

While it is true that we do not need to be fearful of God’s wrath because of Christ's work at the cross, it is also clear that we are to fear God in the sense of respect and awe.

Not respectfully fearing God, how can we take refuge in His power?

Having God’s blessings certainly does not mean we become perfect beings with perfect lives. We may feel some wind, hear loud thunder and see darkness around us. But we face life with God’s covering of protection and love.

In fact, fearing the Lord gives us a very peaceful and secure feeling!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our Lord, we thank You for being our almighty and powerful God.

Lord, we ask for Your protection especially during this pandemic and uncertain times..

Please give us wisdom and guide us always!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

HOW TO SENSE GOD'S DIRECTION AND SEE RESULTS IN OUR LIVES!

11 January 2021

“So we have not stopped PRAYING for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of HIS WILL and to give you spiritual WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING

— Colossians 1:9

Our walk with God is one of peace yet also one of constant warfare as we battle between our will and His.

When we pray:

1) Do we ask God to fulfil our plans ?

2) Do we ask God to execute HIS plans for us?

Often, we fall into the trap of praying according to our will and wondering why things happened differently.

In order for our lives to be meaningful, effective or fruitful, our delight must be in the Lord and His purpose for us.

Doing so, He will guide our desires and requests to His glory.

Friends, let's know that we cannot persuade God to do what we want. Rather, we can ask Him and find out what He wants us to do!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for having heard us and for always hearing us.

Lord, we ask that You always lead us and guide us so that we do what You want us to do and that we fit into Your perfect and good plans for us!!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

ENJOYING GOD'S SUFFICIENCY

09 January 2021

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed

— Proverbs 11:25

Generosity goes beyond riches, giving our time, hospitality and friendship.

However, it is important that when we give, we do it willingly without expecting anything in return. If not, our motivation is already wrong.

Giving is also an individual matter settled in our own hearts, not determined by peer pressure.

Simply put, when we give cheerfully and willingly, the promise is that God will provide all that we need to continue doing good.

Let’s remember that God's abundance extends beyond the superficiality of material resources.

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us.

Lord, please teach us that Your grace is upon us so that we can also share that grace willingly with an open mind.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

OUR FAITH LETS US EXPERIENCE GOD'S GRACE IN OUR LIVES!!

08 January 2021

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.

— John 14:1

Our walk of faith is not a one-time action, but a daily matter of trusting God therefore the need for "Endurance".

The life that Jesus promised has nothing to do with a trouble-free life, but rather with having joy in our daily lives.

However, satan wants to rock our faith by sending all kinds of life-defeating, joy-stealing attacks as he knows we walk in the physical world.

His goal is to point our eyes at the issues we face, causing our faith in God to be unsteady.

Today, we can be assured that we are not facing the trials of life alone but with the indwelling Holy Spirit within us.

The promises Jesus gave His disciples still stand for us today!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for showing us Your mercy and love through Jesus Christ.

Lord, as we go through our daily lives, please give us strength and wisdom so that we can handle situations the way you want us to handle.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

PUTTING OFF FIRST BEFORE WE CAN PUT ON OUR NEW SELF

07 January 2021

“To put off your OLD self, which belongs to your FORMER manner of life and is CORRUPT through DECEITFUL DESIRES.

— Ephesians 4:22

Jesus was teaching Nicodemus that in order to live the new life, one has to be "Born Again". He meant that something old has to be given up.

The Bible teaches that out of our hearts comes coveting, deceit, sensuality and pride.

We are not perfect and our old selves are our old thoughts, speech, bitterness and envy that we can cast out of our lives to be better people.

Out of that new self in Christ will come new attitudes, emotions and actions clothing us with His holiness.

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our Lord, we thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit that now lives inside of us when we believe in the work of Christ at the cross.

Lord, we ask that You give us understanding so that we learn to ask the Holy Spirit for strength instead of ourselves.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

UNDERSTANDING OUR TRUE NATURE

06 January 2021

“On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.

— Mark 2:17

The world is becoming dangerously superficial with people looking up to external and not internal rest.

Just as the pharisees strive to appear perfect and righteous all the time, so are some of us thinking we are better then others.

This verse shows that Jesus is not interested in "Self Perfection" but "Self Admittance".

Self Admittance of our weakness, ugliness, imperfections and how much we need Jesus to live a life of fullness.

Just like a medically ill patient who is in denial of his condition will surely get worst, so will our internal beings be at unrest and conflict if we choose not to accept and admit our true nature from Adam and Eve.

Let’s run to Jesus today and ask Him to cure us!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for sending Your only Son, Jesus, who is perfect to be sin for us so that we are made right before You.

Lord, please renew our minds and refresh our hearts so that we can stand in Your grace and learn Your ways.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

HAVE WE BEEN TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED?

05 January 2021

“Pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

— 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18

Prayer is not just about asking for HELP when in need but also giving THANKS for the smallest things we are provided with.

Praying on both spectrums prevents us from:

- Taking things for granted

- Turns everyday moments into thanksgiving.

It’s akin to keeping a radio playing in the background and having that connection open and talking to God as we go about our day.

A prayerful life can be consciously built up like a habit and when we do that, we will be more sensitive to God’s will and direction in our lives!!

Hallelujah!!

Prayer

Dear God our loving Father, we thank You for going ahead and paving the best plans for us.

Lord, please infuse us with humility and increase the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives so that we sense Your direction and purpose for us in our lives!!!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

PROTECTION IN TODAY'S WORLD BY SEEKING TRUTH

04 January 2021

“But test them all; hold on to what is good

— 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Ravi Zacharias said, "We have a right to believe whatever we want, but not everything we believe is right".

Today's world has become warped with many types of truth – from lies, to truths, to half-truths, to statistics, to theories, etc.

It's easy to get lost and misguided especially when it can seem to come from credible sources.

The very first biblical text are over a 1000 years old or more and written by a diverse group of people, kings, fishermen and tax collectors, yet remains consistent and a reflection of our world today even before it happened.

Hear something that does not sit well? Take that to God’s Word and see what He has to say about it!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our Lord, we thank You for Your Word that’s made readily available today.

Lord, we ask that You grant us wisdom and discernment so that we know what's the truth of life and what are lies.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

STAYING CAREFREE BY BEING DOERS OF GOD'S WORD

02 January 2021

“What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, PRACTICE these things, and the God of PEACE will be with you.

— Philippians 4:9

"Stress" and "Peace" are enemies. Life is short and the more stressed we are, the harder it is for us to attain peace.

Daily, the enemy throws arrows of stress from our kids, habits of spouse, our interactions while driving or with strangers to work.

Choosing to repay evil for evil, we fall into the traps of the devil feeling frustrated and judgemental.

Choosing to practise God’s Word with His help, we take things easier and feel much more at ease.

Friends, the devil cannot force us but he can surely tempt us into lashing out or acting upon our thoughts.

Submitting our thoughts to God, He will keep us in perfect peace!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our loving Father, we thank You for your Word today which is made readily available.

Lord, we ask that Your peace be upon us as we go about our days and for Your grace to be upon us so that we can live a Christ-like life.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Reflection:

1) In a stressful situation, have we thought about how Jesus would handle it instead of us?

2) How can we direct our thoughts toward God more often throughout the day?

ATTAINING JOY IN GIVING

01 January 2021

“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share.

— 1 Timothy 6:17-18

Having more than enough is a blessing and there are examples in Scripture of God blessing his servants with wealth.

The key lies in our hearts and whether we are "GREEDY" or "CONTENTED".

The Bible teaches that Godliness with contentment is great gain.

Keeping our eyes on Christ as our provider, we will be molded to be genuinely kind and generous instead of giving and being bitter about it.

Our motives of giving will not be that of outward self-centeredness but that of inward selflessness!

Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear God our heavenly Father, we thank You for Your mercy, grace and provision.

Lord, we ask that You change our hearts so that we become willing to share selfless love to others without feelings of self-centeredness!

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
