“The Lord is able to make all things new. Live life His way and He will give you a new start.” (Romans 4:17b) From time to time, I would ponder over these words.
The old must die, then the new will come; the old (e.g. leaves, flowers) withers, then the new will grow. It seems like out of nothing. How amazing it is to observe how life regenerates automatically. How amazing it is to observe the life cycle of a butterfly, a frog or any creature that goes through drastic changes in its lifetime. Thanks be to God, the Creator of heaven and earth.
What about humankind? Do we go through drastic changes too?
Other than what we see on the outside, I think drastic changes do take place on the inside. My thinking has changed – quite drastically. Situations change. Circumstances change. People change. We ourselves change. Sometimes, I even find it difficult to agree with what my friends are saying but I have learned to guard my tongue… Thank God for the Holy Spirit.
I do not want to end up debating, arguing or quarrelling with anyone. To me, friendship is important. But, I will not compromise my values and my friends do not expect me to agree with everything they say or join them in everything they do. I have a friend of a different faith and we are both amazed how much we agree on certain values. I find it futile trying to convince how right we (Christians) are. I trust in the Holy Spirit who works in human hearts. We can say thousands and thousands of words for years and years and yet reap no harvest but when the Holy Spirit pours out His life-giving love into the heart of a tender spirit, we see new life grow. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
Dear Father God,
Today, we lift up people around us with whom we have shared our stories, testimonies and faith – family members, friends, colleagues, neighbours, even strangers… You know who they are. We pray and ask for the outpouring of Your Holy Spirit upon them. Pour Your amazing love into their hearts and enlighten their minds with the truth of Your Word. May the blind see, the lame walk, the sick be healed and the dead be revived. Thank You Father God!
We pray for ourselves too. Have Your way with us. Amen!
