Quiet Time With Jesus – Abide

Wednesday, 2 Jan 2019

John 15:7-8

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (NKJV)

If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples. (NIV)

Notice the different words used – abide and remain; desire and wish; done and given.

Notice also the words ‘in Me’ which means ‘in Christ’.

Christ and His words are one. When we abide in Him, His words abide in us. In other words, we are abiding by His rules – His ways. If we put His words into our spirit, soul and body, we will desire what Christ desires, we will wish what Christ wishes. Christ did not do anything against His Father’s will. He and His Father are One. All things done by the Son is in accordance with God, the Father’s will. We can be assured that God will do whatever we ask and give whatever we want IF it is in accordance with His divine will.

Everything that we do is for our Heavenly Father’s glory not ours. Whatever we do is to BEAR FRUIT for His Kingdom purposes. Then, the world will see that we are truly His disciples. The world will know and exclaim, “We can see Christ in you! You are truly the disciples of Jesus Christ!”

My Prayer

Dear Father God

As we begin our first working day of the year, help us to abide in You and Your Word. And as we abide in You, reveal Your plan and guide us so that we can walk and work out Your plan to accomplish Your purposes. May all that we do and say bring You glory!

Father, it is our hearts’ desire to BEAR FRUIT – fruit that will last. Teach us Lord!

Song: The Potter’s Hand (Hillsong Worship)

Beautiful Lord, wonderful savior

I know for sure, all of my days are held in Your hands

Crafted into Your perfect plan

You gently call me, into Your presence

Guiding me by, Your Holy Spirit

Teach me dear Lord

To live all of my life through Your eyes

I’m captured by, Your Holy calling

Set me apart

I know You’re drawing me to Yourself

Lead me Lord I pray

Take me, Mold me

Use me, Fill me

I give my life to the Potter’s hands

Hold me, Guide me

Lead me, Walk beside me

I give my life to the Potter’s hand

(Songwriter: Darlene Zschech)

Amen
