I didn’t know that one of the personal fasts recorded in the Bible that brought with it great favour from the Lord was a 21-day Daniel fast – eating only vegetables and fruits and drinking only water. No colas, burgers, Twinkies, meats, sweets, or bread - an excerpt from the book ‘Fasting’ by Jentezen Franklin (JF).
JF wrote: Have you seen a military man try to fit into his uniform 30 years later? When you’re a soldier, you stay fit, healthy, alert and ready. Paul said we should live that way because the days are evil. Just as the angel told Daniel, principalities of nations rise up to do battle, but we are living as retired military, growing fat and comfortable. Moses fasted. Elijah fasted 40 days. Paul fasted 40 days. Jesus fasted 40 days. If the children of God do not fast, how will we ever fit into the armour of God? How will we effectively wield the sword of the Spirit? Unquote.
We must not cease to hear our Commander’s voice. Let us rise up and do battle the way we are trained.
When we fast, mealtimes become quiet time with the Lord. As we become more sensitive to His voice, we will gain more understanding of His Word. God will show us deeper truths. As we study His Word, we will release beauty for ashes, and joy for mourning. The garment of praise will defeat the spirit of heaviness. Our praise will go forth and scatter the enemy. We will develop patience. We will come in line with God’s priorities. We will release angelic messengers. We will find God’s way and God’s protection for our little ones. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
Dear Father God,
Thank You for the verses Daniel 10:12-14 that tell us that Daniel’s prayers were already heard in heaven from the very FIRST DAY he started to fast. The only reason the angel had not appeared to Daniel sooner was because he was fighting with the principality of Persia. What an amazing picture!
The picture I see now: (1) As we fast and pray, we are doing battle in the spiritual. Angels of light are doing battle with angels of darkness. (2) If we see nothing in the physical, it does not mean nothing is happening in the spiritual.
We must not be disheartened when our prayers do not seem to be answered. We must continue to be vigilant and pray for God's will to be done. Father God, we declare that Your word will never return to you void. We, the warriors of God’s Army, declare victory even as principalities of nations rise up to do battle. We are not laid back, lazy or complacent. We shall continually submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit and do battle in the spiritual realm (i.e. fast and pray). Father God, open our spiritual eyes. Give us understanding. Sharpen our spiritual ears. Command us to do battle according to Your divine military plan. We are Your warriors. Amen!
Whether we are fighting for our loved ones (to be saved or to be healed) or anyone (to be forgiven and restored), we are fighting according to Your Redemptive Plan. We know that Jesus who sits at Your right hand is interceding for us in accordance to Your Will. We also know that in all things You work for our good. Father, we love You! Indeed, we have been called according to Your purpose. We know that in all spiritual battles, we are more than conquerors THROUGH CHRIST who loved us. To God be the Glory!
