Quiet Time With Jesus – Vulnerability

Tuesday, 1 May 2018

The world often teaches us the wrong things. I am making a bold statement. The word ‘kiasu’ comes to mind. It means ‘afraid of losing’ – it is an attitude of not willing to lose / miss out something (never mind if it is good or bad). The Bible teaches us the opposite – lose your life and you will live; be the last and you will be the first.

Shame and guilt is a prison (mental, emotional and spiritual). We follow a Teacher who says, “the truth will set you free” (John 8:32), not the lies we protect ourselves with. I have done wrong things, thought the wrong thoughts… I still do but my Teacher is with me 24/7. I know that: If I surrender [my will], align [my thoughts] and obey [when He reprimands], He is faithful and just and will forgive me my sins and purify me from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

John said,

If we claim to be without sin, WE DECEIVE OURSELVES and the truth is not in us.
— 1 John 1:8

He said, “If we claim we have not sinned, WE MAKE HIM OUT TO BE A LIAR and His Word has no place in our lives.” These are bold statements!

The psalmist said, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
— Psalm 139:23-24

There is no way anyone can hide from God. God sees everything, hears everything and knows everything. Even before we speak or do anything, He already knows. My logic is: If He already knows, there is no point hiding, denying or defending oneself. The truth is the truth. The truth is in our heart and God is able to see the heart of every man (and woman).

Truly, truly I say, “God’s love is deep; God’s love is wide; It’s God I trust; In Christ I abide; Freedom He gives; we must decide; Through tests and trials, in Him I confide; Nothing to prove, nothing to hide; God is ready and willing to provide; The battle is on; God’s on our side; Our motivation is love, not divide.” Hallelujah!

Somebody said, “Many people are not afraid of losing money but they are afraid of losing face.”

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Whose ‘face’ do we want to protect? Father, search our hearts… It is not our face that matters. It is Yours. We want people to SEE CHRIST in us. It is only when we surrender our minds (to Christ), align our will (to Yours) and obey (in all circumstances) that people WILL SEE CHRIST in us. Help us to shed our old selves – walls of prideful self-protection – and put on (permanently) our new selves – who we are in Christ. We are called to be THE CHURCH.

Living as THE CHURCH is only possible when we bring our real selves – our broken selves – into true community with one another. It is in true community with one another that we will find our hearts changing as we grow deeper roots in Christ’s love. Surely, we will find healing and strength to be Your hands and feet in a hurting world. Amen!

Father God, You are the only Source from whom we receive and give a love so powerful that the world can recognise and identify as the LOVE OF GOD. Let the world rejoice with thanksgiving. Let the world proclaim: GOD IS LOVE! Amen!

Hallelujah!
