Quiet Time with Jesus - PAIN

Friday, 23 March 2018

My Bible teacher once told us a real story:

When he was a child he started stealing. At first, he stole coins from his own piggy bank. Next, he stole coins from his mother’s purse. Then, he became bolder and stole dollar notes from his mother’s wallet. One day he was caught red-handed. His mother grabbed him, pulled him into the bedroom, locked the door and caned him. He tried to run away from the cane, crying loudly as he ran around the room. His mind was fixed on running away from the physical pain of being ‘whipped’. Suddenly, he saw his mother’s face. He saw her PAIN. He saw her tears – LOVE flowing out of his mother’s heart, as she struck him with the cane in her hand. He stopped running…

The story had made me cry. The story reminded me of Jesus. He was scourged for our sins. He took the punishment that we deserve. The only difference was: Jesus did not run away. He went to the cross willingly because He loves us and He wants us to change.

Jesus is willing to forgive all our sins. We may come from different background, learn many wrong things, done many bad things… Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He doesn’t change. He loves us with an everlasting love.

The cross is offensive. It confronts us directly. It demands a new life-style - in all of us. Sin is a disease in the human heart. It affects the human mind, will and emotions. So, how can we break this bondage? How can we break free?

Jesus said,

I am the way and the truth and the life. NO ONE comes to the Father except through Me.
— John 14:6

Jesus is the only way!

The most painful moment for Jesus was when He cried out in a loud voice: Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)

At that moment, Jesus was separated from God the Father. It was the MOST PAINFUL MOMENT for our Lord Jesus Christ.

I cannot imagine the PAIN in God’s heart as He watches what we are doing here on earth – drug abuse, adultery, abortion, child abuse, sexual immorality… It must be extremely painful for our Father in Heaven to see His Family breaking down – families that no longer look like families. What is wrong with us?

What has gone wrong with the entire human race? Let us not blame one another. Sin has crept into the church as well. Let us not be religious. Let us not be self-righteous. Let us draw nearer to God, hear His Voice, and know His Heart. It is only in His light that we can see our filthy rags.

Father God, please wash us clean. Purify us in Your Blood. Wash us in Your Word. Change us from inside out. Let us be a light to the nations. Clothe us in Your Righteousness. Warn us against self-righteousness. Warn us against religiosity. Make us blameless and pure. We do not want to be proud, stubborn or rebellious. Rebuke us! Change us completely! We ask and pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!

We want to renounce all our secret and shameful ways. We must not use deception. We must not distort the Word of God. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Father God, make Your light SHINE IN OUR HEARTS to give us the light of knowledge of Your glory in the face of Christ. Amen!

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. Amen!

Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. Hallelujah!

Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an ETERNAL GLORY that far outweighs them all. So, we FIX OUR EYES not on what is seen, but on what is unseen for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Thanks be to God! Amen!
