Quiet Time with Jesus – What Is Ministry?

Thursday, 27 April 2017

Ministry is ‘living as a light to the nations.’ Ministry is living out God’s Word so that the world may see that we are true disciples of Jesus Christ. Together with all the saints on earth, let us become an irresistible church to heaven.

The bottom line to flourishing under God’s hand of blessing is faithfulness. It is about knowing God’s will and doing it.
— Wayne Cordeiro

Seeking the presence of God is of utmost importance in our church at Cairnhill.

If God’s presence is not with us, why do we go to church at all?

An irresistible church longs for God’s presence more than anything – more than spacious facilities, cutting-edge programs, large attendance, big budgets, or rain-free days.
— Wayne Cordeiro
Dear God, make us a honest, courageous and powerful Church. We want something greater than anything human made. We want something undeniably of divine origin and implementation. We do not want to succeed unless You, O God, is at the root of our initiatives. If You are not at the centre of our mission, we do not want our mission even to exist, much less thrive. Amen!

(The above prayer is inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s prayer: “Without You, Lord… I MUST fail.”

Dear Father God, help us (individually) to be the child of God that You want us to be. Help us to sync our hearts with heaven. Help us to lean on You, regularly plug our hearts into heaven’s heart so that we see what You see. We value what You value. Whatever touches Your heart touches our heart. Amen.

I value all things only by the price they shall gain in eternity.
— John Wesley

Individually, we sense God differently. The degree is different for me each time, sometimes more intense, sometimes less. Yesterday, I had a very intense awareness of His presence when I worshipped with two sisters in Christ. It was so intense that I dared not ‘speak’ but simply continued to sing, pray (silently), raise my hand (fearfully)… I was afraid that I might say or do something ‘out of sync’… Of late, I have been repeatedly reminded of Zephaniah’s words:

The Lord Your God is in your midst… He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love
— Zephaniah 3:17 NASB

Let us all fix our eyes on JESUS, and love Him, serve Him, and enjoy His presence more and more. He is GOD. How He chooses to make Himself evident is up to Him.

(Inspired by the book: The Irresistible Church – 12 Traits of a Church Heaven Applauds, by Wayne Cordeiro.)

Thank You LORD for teaching me to delight in Your presence. I pray that all men, women and children will learn to reverence You. O GOD, You are HOLY! We reverence You! In Your holiness, we cannot stand… unless we are clothed IN CHRIST, and covered by the BLOOD OF THE LAMB.

Truly, truly, reverence is a lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path – it is LIFE; Reverence is a map and a compass for my journey – to my destiny of eternity; Reverence is awareness of Your presence, Your rod and staff - please discipline me; please guide me; Reverence is knowing that You are pure and holy and You love me.

I pray that we the CHURCH may reflect CHRIST – that the Spirit of the LORD rests on us – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the Fear of the LORD – and we will delight in the Fear of the LORD.
