Quiet Time with Jesus – the will of man

Tuesday, 7 June 2016

God gives man a free will. He will never take it back. If I sense the works of a controlling spirit in me, or sense it working in another person, I know for sure - it is NOT the Holy Spirit. The life God places within me develops NEW virtues, not the virtues of the seed of Adam, but of JESUS CHRIST. The old ‘man’ must die completely. When I was born again, the Holy Spirit became my divine guardian. He gently and patiently teaches me God’s way of life. Faithfully, He reveals the truth. He does not force me to listen or to obey. But, I know that blessings (rewards) follow obedience, and curses (consequences) follow disobedience (Deuteronomy 28).

When John saw God, he fell at His feet like a dead man (Revelation 1:17). His immediate reflex was awe-struck worship! Our God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). It is the Blood of Christ that shields us from the consuming fire of the holiness of God. Now, we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the Blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19).

Confidence in the old man’s natural virtues (shaped by the world) and power (gained through the ways of the world) must die. The new man must learn to draw his life from the reservoir of the resurrection life of Jesus.

Somebody said that he feels dry. Perhaps it is a ‘drying-up’ / ‘dying’ process. I pray that whoever feels dry (including myself) will turn to Jesus and ask Him for a drink of water. We will never thirst again. Hallelujah!

God provided manna just enough for each day. God provides water just enough for each day too. We must drink every day. We cannot store some for tomorrow. Jesus gives us ‘fresh’ water to drink every day to refresh us. Hallelujah!

Blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers
— Psalm 1:2-3

I want to be such a tree! Amen!

Jesus says,

Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
— John 4:14

Oswald Chambers: God does not take our natural virtues and transform them, because our natural virtues could never even come close to what Jesus Christ wants. No natural love, no natural patience, no natural purity can ever come up to His demands. But as we bring every part of our natural bodily life into harmony with the new life God has placed within us, He will exhibit in us the virtues that were characteristic of the Lord Jesus. And every virtue we possess is His alone.

YL: We are being transformed into a certain (maybe tiny but perfect) part of Jesus’ body. Together as one, we will form the completely perfect Body of Christ. God is at work in us through the Holy Spirit, teaching and transforming us. Our minds are being renewed. If we submit to Him willingly, He will shape us into that part of His Body. How beautiful! How wonderful! Amen!
