Quiet Time with Jesus – Moving Mountains

Saturday, 28 May 2016

When David volunteered to fight Goliath, King Saul dressed him in the king’s armor. It didn’t fit! David said, “I cannot go in these because I am not used to them” (1 Samuel 17:39).

Instead, David

... took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
— 1 Samuel 17:40

David was a little shepherd boy but God had prepared him for this battle. We must remember that no ‘giant’ in our life can ever be a match for our big God! Amen!

Young David knew he was loved, gifted and blessed. He knew that His God had called him to fight this battle with Goliath.

We face many battles every day – big and small. When we have to face a ‘giant’, we must look to God for wisdom, stay tuned to His voice and move in His strength and power. We can hear His voice clearly only when we have developed a close relationship with our God. Father God, give us the ability to discern the voice – whether it is Yours, our flesh or someone else. Amen!

David’s brothers must be thinking he was out of his mind. People around David must be talking … but young David had confidence. His confidence is not in the opinion of others. His confidence is not in himself. His confidence is in his God!

Do we often measure our obstacles against our own strength?

David, full of confidence in his God, went to face his giant, used the skill that he possessed and the small stone hit the giant like a boulder!

Let us never forget to acknowledge our active and living God in all our moments of victory. All glory belongs to Him!

David: “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Samuel 17:26)

Beth Moore: We’re often intimidated in battle because we are uncertain of our faith. But we must remember we don’t stand in victory because of our faith. We stand in victory because of our God. Faith in faith is pointless, but faith in a living, active God moves mountains.

YL: Thank You Lord!

Savior, He can move the mountains; My God is mighty to save; He is mighty to save; Forever, Author of Salvation; He rose and conquered the grave; Jesus conquered the grave; So take me as You find me; All my fears and failures; Fill my life again; I give my life to follow; Everything I believe in; Now I surrender …

Shine Your light and let the whole world see; We’re singing for the glory of the risen King;

Jesus, shine Your light and let the whole world see; We’re singing for the glory of the risen King.

Glory to God! Amen!

I have resolved to seek God passionately, live prayerfully and serve purposefully. The LORD will guide me always. (Isaiah 58:11) The LORD watches over me. (Psalm 121) The LORD is my Shepherd. (Psalm 23) Amen!
