Quiet Time with Jesus – The Secret Place

Friday, 27 May 2016

I have a secret place. Actually, it is not a specific place but a secret time. It is also not a specific time. It can be 4am in my bedroom. It can be 8am in the garden. I call it - the secret place.

We may not realize it but we are fighting spiritual battles every day. We need to be on guard – be alert and self-controlled. The enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

God turns spiritual battles into spiritual tests. We need to be tuned in to Him – be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. James said that man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

Oswald Chambers: The reason the battle is lost is that I fight it first in the external world. Get alone with God, do battle before Him, and settle the matter once and for all.

YL: I am NOT always right. I cannot guarantee that my words are always encouraging. I cannot claim that my decisions / actions are always in line with His will. I need God desperately in order to live a godly life in this fallen world. To me, it is important to meditate and intentionally put to practice what I hear God says through His Word and His servants.

How do we live a godly life with a godly conviction expressed in a purpose-driven life? This ‘godly conviction’ is a life-long submission to God.

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Our purpose determines our values and our values determine our choices. Father, we need the Holy Spirit desperately. Fill us Lord! Fill us Lord! Teach us as we read Your Word. Guide us as we put Your Word to practice. As we walk in this fallen world, we pray that Your in-dwelling Holy Spirit will guide our every move and every word. Your values shall determine our daily choices. On our own, we make mistakes. We need Your Holy Spirit to guide us at all times. Guard our lips. Guide our actions. Search our hearts. Set us apart for Your use. Truly, it is only by Your power and love that we are energized to touch someone with love and grace. Amen.

Osward Chambers: In dealing with other people, our stance should always be to drive them toward making a decision of their will. That is how surrendering to God begins.

My prayer: Dear God, I do not want to live a slow, lazy and useless Christian life. I want to become more and more on fire, giving my best for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
