Quiet Time with Jesus – The WORD

What do you do when nothing is happening?

It is easy to ‘fall asleep’ especially when you are physically tired. It is natural. The disciples fell asleep when they were supposed to watch and pray.

What do you do when something is happening?

It is easy to react (panic, fear, worry) when something happens. It is normal. Paul advises us not to be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present our requests to God (Philippians 4:6). And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

We have the advantage of hindsight when we look into the life of Jesus, the Son of God. We need foresight to look into our own future. What do you see?

Jesus’ life appears to be a failure (rejection, persecution) to the point of death. Death seems to be ‘the end’ to many people because they cannot see what is beyond. Faith itself is a gift of God. It is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). Hallelujah!

The call of God on any individual can only be perceived and understood internally by the individual himself (herself). To win a war, soldiers are trained to carry out military instructions without question. Likewise, soldiers in God’s Army must be trained to carry out His instructions without question. How do we fight against the enemy in a spiritual war? The Bible tells us:

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

Test every thought. Measure it against the Word of God. Our weapon is the Word of God, living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24)

Yes Lord! We hold the Sword of the Spirit in our mind and our mouth! The Sword that You have given us is sharper than a double-edged sword! Teach us to use it for Your divine purposes!

Amen!

John the Baptist testifies that JESUS is the LAMB OF GOD. John the Disciple testifies that the WORD became flesh and made His dwelling among us. Let us worship Him!

Song: Light of the world, You stepped down into darkness; Opened my eyes, let me see; Beauty that made this heart adore You; Hope of a life spent with You; Here I am to worship; Here I am to bow down; Here I am to say that You're my God; You're altogether lovely; Altogether worthy; Altogether wonderful to me!
