Quiet Time with Jesus – Be Sanctified by the Truth

Thursday, 17 September 2015

Jesus prayed for His disciples:

My prayer is not that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; Your Word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
— John 17:15-19

Through believing and obeying the Word of God, a follower of Jesus Christ becomes sanctified. To be sanctified is to be cleansed and made holy - set apart for God’s use.

God’s Word is living and active. It is sharper than any double-edged sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:12-13)

Daily application of God’s Word has a purifying effect on our minds and hearts. The Holy Spirit renews, reeducates and redirects our minds. He convicts us, helps us to change the way we think, leads us to confess and guides us back to the right path.

Our Lord is sending us into the world to make a difference. We are Christ’s ambassadors. We are called to be salt and light. (Matthew 5:13-16) Let us do everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ for the glory of our Father in heaven.

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Your Word says that the mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6)

You are the God of our salvation; Sanctify us by the truth; Your Word is truth;

Guide us with Your eye; Instruct us and teach us in the way we should go;

Keep us strong right up to the end; Keep us free from all blame on the great day when Jesus Christ returns;

In His Name I pray.

Father, not my will but Yours be done. Amen.
