Quiet Time with Jesus – Repent or Perish

Selwyn Hughes: If there is no such thing as sin then the cross of Jesus is irrelevant.

One Bible teacher: If there is no heaven and no hell, then our faith is irrelevant.

The Bible tells us about the signs of the end of the age in Matthew 24. As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

We will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but Jesus tells us not to be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.

Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Christians will be hated by all nations because of Christ.

Be aware:

At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Jesus’ assurance:

He who stands firm to the end will be saved
— Matthew 24:13

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Remind us not to judge one another. Truly, if there is no such thing as sin then the cross of Jesus is irrelevant.

The Bible tells us that the righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We are justified freely by Your grace through the redemption that come by Christ Jesus. You presented Jesus as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood.

Jesus knows who are the hypocrites (Luke 12:56).

Jesus said twice – “Unless you repent, you too will all perish” (Luke 13:3 and 5).

Then Jesus told the parable of the fig tree (Luke 13:6-9).

Father God, You are the Owner of the vineyard. You come to look for fruit... Verse 9 says, "If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down."

Father, I do not want to be cut down! Help me bear fruit - the fruit that You want to see!

Surely, if we plant a fruit tree, we expect fruit. For example, if we plant a papaya tree, we expect the tree to produce papayas.

Help us Lord to produce fruit that will glorify You. We can hear the birds sing. They glorify You. We can see the flowers bloom. They glorify You. Every thing that You create glorifies You. Amen!

I pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, that we, who believe may glorify You in everything we do and everything we say. Your Name is above every name!

At the name of JESUS every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD, to the glory of GOD the FATHER. (Romans 2:10-11)

Not my will but Yours be done. Amen.
