Ukulele outreach

Christmas Period 2018

This Christmas, together with some members of Wesley Methodist Church, members of Cairnhill went to 7 different places to carol and spread Christmas cheer to the public with their ukuleles.

It all started with Lucy, our missions staff, who took the initiative to learn some creative ways in reaching out. Her search brought her to Wesley Methodist Church, which was conducting ukulele lessons. Soon, other members of the Cairnhill family joined her to learn the musical instrument.

Every place the team went to had its unique blessing, but the highlight was at the Sungei Tengah Lodge where 23,000 migrants are housed. Praise the Lord, seeds were sown, and the harvest will be plentiful.

The Cairnhill Ukulele team is still young and in the midst of refining their skills. We are praying for more passionate people to join and add to the strength of the group.

Meanwhile, enjoy the photos and be encouraged!

BlazeInC Camp 2018

13-16 December 2018

it’s been 2 weeks since Youth Camp 2018 and we have some thanksgivings to share.

1. We witnessed God’s miracle of holding the December rains for 3 days straight for our games and outing to go on. It only started raining on Saturday night! It really encouraged us and increased our faith in God.

2. As part of our Amazing Race, we partnered with Mervyln, Chairperson of Outreach and Social Concerns, to give out ~30 care packs to cleaners and security guards. They were also tasked to pray for someone on the streets. It was delightful to see the youths asking for more time to write heartfelt words on the cards.

3. We had Ps William, Ps Allan and Kathleen Hee during our “Ask Me Anything” Session on our 2nd Morning. Treye, our Youth Coordinator was the moderator. There were numerous questions that the youths asked. They were hungry for answers to life’s biggest questions! We are thankful for the time taken to impart pearls of wisdom and Godly values into the lives of the youths.

4. We had actually planned for the youths to piece together our theme verse in one of the Night Games stations.

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.” - Matthew 5:14

What’s amazing was that God had also given aunty Kat this verse which she shared hours before. Even more surprising, the next day on the Bible App, the verse of the day was… Matthew 5:14!

5. During the Holy Spirit Night, the youths encountered God as well. Some saw visions, some received prophecies and others had prayers answered. God is a good Father. We hope that the youths were encouraged and experienced something life-changing.

6. During the games, the youths displayed integrity. They chose to abide by the rules to fully enjoy the games instead of earning more points through unscrupulous ways. Most definitely, they will be successful in every aspect of their lives because they choose to honour and practice integrity in whatever they do. Pray that they will not depart from these Christ-like values.

The Pastors and Camp Comm have worked very hard (some while serving NS and studying for major exams) to prepare for the camp. It was rewarding to see the youths enjoy the fruits of their labour.

In closing, without prayer, all these planning would have been useless. We are more interested in God’s direction for BlazeInC than in the activities.

It was truly an amazing 4 days.

Cairnhill Carnival 2018

11 November 2018

What a joyful atmosphere there was at the Cairnhill Carnival 2018! The atmosphere was certainly enlivened by friendly church members welcoming visitors to Cairnhill. Let’s not forget what was on the menu: satay, laksa, putu piring, nasi lemak and more! It was so delicious and satisfying.

It was a great delight seeing the children laughing, playing and worshiping God. Indeed, “the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” children with child-like faith (Luke 18: 15-17).

Aside from the fun and games, the highlight was undoubtly the worship session. The song “God I look to you” by Bethel Music, encouraged us to look to God as He give us a vision to see things through His eyes. We can seek help from God because He gives us wisdom to understand the circumstances. These are motivating factors for us to love the Lord who is our strength and shield. The children’s band ushered in God’s presence, making it memorable worship experience. Truly, anyone can serve God, including young children!

The scripture of the day was taken from 2 Samuel 9:1-13; Ps William Sam preached about living life together as a family. He emphasised that God’s love can set us free from sin, emotional hurts or any kind of setbacks. God can make things happen in a way where we could never make it happen on our own; He is the God of the impossible. What a timely reminder to rely fully on God’s strength, as we do His work wherever we are! Lastly, nothing goes unnoticed with our God. Our efforts are always appreciated by God even if we do not see results; live not based on our own expectations, but God’s expectations when doing His work. The sermon ended with an invitation for all who sought spiritual refreshment to come back to the Lord.

It was a joyous occasion for Cairnhill Methodist as we ended the day with games and food. This event was birthed out of a desire to reach out in love. Many spiritual friendships were fostered. It was definitely a meaningful and fruitful experience for us!
