Quiet Time With Jesus – Shalom City

1 Timothy 2:1-4

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

What are the benefits of a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way? What is the meaning of ‘pleasing in the sight of God’? What is good about being ‘saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth’? What is ‘truth’?

If you do not have the answers, what would you like to do? Would you continue to flow with society? The Word of God says: Do not conform to the pattern of this world (Romans 12:2). Why?

I chose 2 Bible verses for meditation on our National Day.

Proverbs 16:12-13

Kings [and Prime Ministers] detest wrongdoing, for a throne [position of authority and responsibility] is established through righteousness. Kings [and our Father God] take ‘pleasure’ in HONEST LIPS; they value the one who speaks what is right.

James 3:17

The wisdom from above is first PURE, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Psalm 8 reminds me of Your majesty – O LORD, O Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! Verse 3: When I consider your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, WHAT IS MAN THAT YOU ARE MINDFUL OF HIM, THE SON OF MAN THAT YOU CARE FOR HIM?

O LORD, O Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Father God, help us remember our National Pledge which is an oath of allegiance to our nation. We thank You that our Ministry of Education mooted the idea of this pledge to inculcate national consciousness and patriotism in schools. From August 1966 onwards, students began reciting the National Pledge before the start of each school day. The original English text was also translated into Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Thanks be to God!

Father God, I thank You for the countless blessings from above. I thank You for loving us. I thank You for watching over us, and guiding our national leaders in decision making. A few National Days ago, our Prime Minister said:… considering the state of the world today… the most fundamental factor in keeping our nation exceptional is not good plans or adequate resources; it is whether we remain united. Father God, help us to make our nation truly ‘A Home with Hope and Heart’. Help each one of us to play a part. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen!
