Quiet Time With Jesus - Contentment

Friday, 16 Aug 2019

My devotional today: Reflect on the variety of people God uses to achieve His purposes.

I am reminded that the God who calls us is also the One who will enable us to do His will (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can keep our spirit, soul and body blameless. Thanks be to God!

When I was in primary six, my teacher wrote in my autograph book: Choices are the hinges of destiny. In the same book, my brother-in-law wrote: Contentment is joy (translated from Chinese). When I was terribly disappointed, God convicted me: The human heart is not content (translated from Chinese).

God is always present as we encounter situations through which He speaks and we pay attention. We cannot stay where we are. We need to go from our ways, thoughts, and purposes to God’s will. These may call for changes in our relationships, attitudes, commitments, behaviour and beliefs. We need to change and continue to change until we conform to the image of Christ.

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

When I consider the work of Your fingers, I am awed. What is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him?

Indeed, choices are the hinges of destiny. Help us to make the right choices. Surely, contentment is joy and the joy of the Lord is our strength. We must acknowledge and confess that our human heart is not content. Forgive us Lord!

Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your unfailing love. According to Your great compassion, blot out our transgressions. Wash away all our iniquities and cleanse us from our sins. Create in us pure hearts, O God, and renew steadfast spirits within us. Restore to us the joy of Your salvation.

Godliness with contentment is great gain. Amen!
