Before I know God, I flow with the world. I fit into the culture of people around me. Self-protection is very important. When I was a teenager, my aunt told me not to be gullible. I believe everyone is somewhat shaped by the world around him/her. That is sometimes called ‘nurture’. However, our inner being has a personality that directs our thinking and decision-making. For example, when somebody provokes me, I can choose to fight back aggressively or remain still. It is easy to fight back because it is the first thing we humans tend to do when we are provoked.
I have observed two students. When one student was criticized, he worked harder to prove that he is not ‘stupid’. Another student did the opposite. When our beliefs and expectations influence our behavior at the subconscious level, we are enacting what is known as a self-fulfilling prophecy. They can worsen mental health disorders like depression. (Excerpt from ‘PositivePsyshology.com’)
Yesterday, I overheard a mother telling her child, “Believe in yourself.” When I was a child, my sister would tell me, “Don’t be proud” when I showed confidence in myself. When I was an adult, I had more doubts about my capabilities and people around me would say, “You can do it.” Life can be quite confusing at times! It was only after knowing God that all these ‘mysteries’ began to fade away. It doesn’t matter any more. I am who I am. I am made in the image of God. I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).
The human body is a unique design of multiple systems that all work intricately together. The cardiovascular system gives us the energy to move. The muscular system gives us the ability to move, lift, and hold things. The digestive system processes food into energy and discards waste. The immune system keeps us healthy. The hormonal system determines our gender. The eyes cause us to see. The nose lets us smell. The tongue and mouth let us eat and taste. The ears enable us to hear. And our skin enables us to feel textures. We have the ability to encounter an incredibly diverse world with an equally amazing diverse body!
We are also blessed with a brain so we can think, process, and create. Our emotions help us to relate to other people and feel compassion. All these systems (plus many more) are UNIQUELY DESIGNED TO MAKE ME WHO I AM.
I often tell my friends that I am living the best time of my life. We are made with a ‘hole’ in the centre of our souls that ONLY ONE THING FITS. Until we find that very specific something, we will never be fulfilled - that very specific something is GOD Himself. Without a relationship with Him, we will always be SEARCHING for something to fill that void.
Dear Father God,
Today, I pray for people of all nations on earth who do not know You yet. I pray that they will continue to seek You and find You. When they seek You with all their hearts, You will be found by them. And You will bring them back from captivity (wherever they are and whatever they are doing). You will bring them safely home.
Let us wait on You. Let us adjust and align. Let us unlearn and relearn. Let us wait on You. Let us understand that learning to WAIT on You is one of the hardest but most important aspects of the Christian life. You seek a LOVE relationship with us, each and every one of us. Waiting develops our absolute dependence on You. We will act in Your timing, not our own… [please continue to pray – supplication and intercession with thanksgiving].
Thank You Father God! Amen!
