We go through changes everyday, big and small. Some changes cause sickness, sin, sorrow, and stress. Some changes inspire hope, joy, faith, and love. Some people say: Look on the bright side. Be positive. Good advice. Good intention. Some good advices given with good intentions may not be the right advice. There is only one good advice: LOOK TO GOD.
Sometimes, the spirit of man is lifted by these words. Sometimes, the spirit resents and rejects the advice and the person goes deeper into darkness, struggling to get out.
Romans 8:17 tells us that we are heirs of God (if we are children of God), and fellow heirs with Christ, PROVIDED WE SUFFER WITH HIM in order that we may also be glorified with Him.
I am seeking God for better understanding of these words: provided we suffer with Him. In this fallen world, we are vulnerable and we may from time to time become victims (e.g. falling down, falling sick, making the wrong decisions and so on). There are natural consequences for everything we do or say and we cannot expect everything to be perfect after we become Christians. If we are not alert on the road, we may meet an accident that can cause injuries. If we are careless, we may lose our belongings. I believe we are responsible for our own safety and we need to take due care. Having said that, I also believe that God the Holy Spirit who lives in us, does speak, warn, caution, remind and direct our every move in body and speech. It is a matter of how sensitive we are to this inner voice. Even if we refuse to listen, or pretend that we don’t hear His voice, God will still speak to us like He spoke to Balaam through a donkey. In my case, God speaks through words on someone’s tee-shirt, words here and there (on posters, etc), words from the Bible through the mouth of my pastor, friend, child, or a stranger… God speaks.
The important question is: Are you listening?
One night while walking home on a dark lonely path, I felt a chill and immediately a verse came to mind: Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4) I continued my journey speaking and meditating on every word of this verse. In other words, I focused on Him who is Greater than any other spirit in the world. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:24)
Dear Father God,
I come to Your throne of grace this morning full of hope and joy, faith and love because I know You hear every word I pray, You know every beat in my heart, You know every desire in my mind. You know me inside out. Yes, Father I come to You on behalf of all those who are suffering from the effects of this fallen world.
Many of my brothers and sisters-in-Christ are going through changes that can become overwhelming. Father, I pray that they will overcome without fear or anxiety. Heal their unbelief. Remove their doubts. Increase their faith. Remind them of Your promises. Father, sometimes we are affected by what we see or hear and we lose faith, little by little. Father, help us to look beyond whatever happens in the physical realm. Help us to look beyond the physical into the spiritual. Help us to see Your face. Help us to hear Your voice. Help us to stand on Your Word. Help us Lord!
I believe we can overcome all circumstances, go through changes without fear or worry because Your Word says so.
Jesus said: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
Father God, we the Body of Christ stand united, as one in Christ: on Your Word. We believe what You say. We trust in You. We know that You are Greater than any other spirit in the world. You are Spirit and we worship You in spirit and truth.
The spiritual nature of man died to God through the sin of Adam and Eve but our spirits are made alive to You, Father God, by being born again (as children of God) by the Holy Spirit. Praise God!
