Quiet Time With Jesus – Better or Bitter

Thursday, 7 February 2019

My thoughts started with comparing myself – what I am today with what I was when I first encountered God (in 1999). What a great difference!

Between Sep 1999 until now, I have experienced ups and downs within the Christian community as well as outside the network of believers. I often say – the church is like the world and stop there. I seldom say - let’s change the world to be like the church - let alone actively doing something about it. I think we should continually have the desire to change the world and earnestly seek God’s wisdom and power to do it. After all, we often pray: Thy Kingdom Come. Thy Will Be Done on earth AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.

What is the meaning of ‘from glory to glory’ in 2 Corinthians 3:18?

These 4 words sum up our entire Christian life, from redemption and sanctification on earth, to our glorious eternal welcome into heaven. The first ‘glory’ refers to the Old Covenant – the Law of Moses – while the second refers to the New Covenant, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Both have astonishing splendor.

The Old Covenant was given to Moses directly from God, written by God’s own finger (Exodus 31:18). The root of our Christian faith is glorious indeed; it’s the glory we’re coming ‘from.’ Yet the New Covenant, the glory we’re going ‘to,’ far surpasses that of the Old.

I believe God uses our experiences to shape us. We are body, soul and spirit. Our body goes through changes e.g. we are what we eat. Our soul changes through our emotional experiences e.g. disappointment, distress… delight, desires… and how we deal of them. Our spirit changes through our relationship with the Holy Spirit living in us i.e. how close, and how sensitive we are to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. I believe God works 24/7 to re-shape us to the image of Christ. So, even while we sleep, God works in us.

Before Apostle Paul finishes with the topic of being transformed from glory to glory, he presents one more astonishing claim: Therefore, if ANYONE IS IN CHRIST, he is a NEW CREATION; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The Lord is inviting us – to have our lives radically transformed here and now, by opening our eyes to see the glorious journey He is taking us on ‘from glory to glory.’ Hallelujah!

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

You never cease teaching us. Let us receive – with revelation of the truth - the guidance of the Holy Spirit who is always prompting us to think with the mind and to do with the heart of Jesus Christ. We know Jesus is unceasingly interceding for us. We know that the Holy Spirit helps us in prayer when we do not know how to pray. We know You are transforming our entire life through prayer and service. We know You work day and night, day and night… Let us sing: Day and night, day and night, let incense arise… Let us do what we sing…

The title of today’s devotional is given by You. Thank You Lord! I pray for all my brothers and sisters in Christ (and myself too) to become BETTER (in Your eyes) and not bitter as we continue our journey with you, living our lives - led by the Holy Spirit - and ultimately being re-shaped to the image of Christ. Hallelujah!

Amen!
