We would never know what you are getting into until we get into it. This thought came to mind as I was reading today’s devotional ‘Our Daily Journey’.
Christians are called to step out of their (our) comfort zone and TRUST GOD. My second job (for 23 years) was a long period of growth and development in one bank. The bank did not stagnate. I did not. It grew and I grew. It changed and I learned new skills. I am thankful. However, there are many people who leave their jobs to look for better opportunities and prospects. That is okay.
I was retrenched and after seeking God, the only path before me was ‘child education’ and I stepped into it. I was convinced that God wanted me to walk in a different direction, I heard His voice in my spirit, “Be available.”
As I reflect on some of the rough and tough times, I thank God that He was always with me, but very often He was silent and inactive. Of course, that’s my perception. I think I didn’t hear Him and didn’t see Him do anything to turn things around. Upon hindsight, I could see why He didn’t change the circumstances but allowed it to torture me. No, it was not torture, it was actually ‘training’ - field training because I found out much much later how useful all the negative experiences and emotions can help me when I help others. I am grateful to have gone through His training program. I think it is our own choice what kind of training we want to receive. Usually, we end up in trouble because of our own decisions. But God is faithful. He has promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. (2 Corinthians 4:16)
God is faithful. We must have faith in Him. The Bible says: Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. I do not want to go into battle without being prepared. For example, we do not send our soldiers into war without first training them. Likewise, God trains us before sending us. It is the individual’s decision whether he wants to enlist in God’s Army. It is the individual’s decision whether he wants to be well-equipped. It is the individual’s decision whether to step forward into frontline battle or stay undercover. We must be aware that life is a battlefield - a spiritual battlefield. Every day we face different challenges, situations and people. We have to deal with them whether we are fully clothed in the Armour of God or not. If you teach a child how to cross a road, you would teach him the basic steps: Look left, look right, and look left again. If there are no cars, cross. You would not allow your child to run across a street without looking out for traffic, would you?
Having said that, there are things that we mere human beings cannot be prepared for. There are times when God’s hand of protection is extended without us knowing. I thank God for those many many times when His provision for safety, His protection from the evil one, His peace in the middle of a storm, His presence in the midst of sorrow, and His patience and pardon when we lose ours.
Thank You Father God! You are our GOOD GOOD FATHER. You are always near: Your LOVE is so deep; Your LOVE is so wide; It’s You we trust; And IN CHRIST we must abide; Freedom You give but we get to decide; Through tests and trials, in You we confide; There is nothing we need to prove, nothing we can hide; You are EVER READY and WILLING to provide; The battle is on; You’re by our side; Our motivation is LOVE, our eternal guide; In You we must unite; Life’s battle we have to fight… Your passion and power in us please ignite! Victory in Christ, we must not lose sight!
All praise and glory to God!
