I want to write on ‘gratitude’ today. I am grateful that I was born into a poor family. I am grateful that I was brought up by the kindest woman I’ve ever known. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to be educated in an English school. I am grateful that I found a job immediately after leaving school. I am grateful that I was trained for the job waiting for me four years after I started work. I am grateful that I worked in a bank for 23 years, learning and growing with the organization. I’m a sentimental person. I cherish relationships. I thank God for His creative hands molding me throughout my life. I thank God for healing me whenever something hit me unexpectedly. He is always with me. He will never leave me nor forsake me, He has promised. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is holy. He is just. And He loves me. He died on the cross for my sins. I do not want to be flogged. The pain must be excruciating! I do not want to be nailed to a cross. The thought of having a nail pierced through my hand terrifies me. It is definitely worse than sitting in the dentist’s chair (fearfully) hearing the sound of drilling and knocking, feeling my tooth being tugged and pulled… When I sat in the dentist’s chair recently, I was crying out to Jesus (silently) for help; I was amazed by God’s creation of our teeth, so strongly secured in our gum, so difficult to remove… Like everything else, we have not taken care of what He has so marvelously given to us and now we are suffering from the lack of care on our part… Who do we blame?
It was His awesome presence that filled my spirit that day - in the dentist’s chair.
Gratitude fills my heart this morning. I can write a book on what God has done for me (and my family). He has saved me from accidents (including road accidents). He has protected me whenever I fall (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually). How can God love me SO MUCH? I cannot comprehend. I thank God that I have given a small fraction of His kind of love when I had children of my own. Each one of them is different – with different strengths and weaknesses, good habits and bad. Yet I love them all. That is just a fraction of God’s kind of love. He loves us so much that He sent His one and only begotten Son to die on the cross for our sins. That one and only death is sufficient to defeat death. That one and only punishment afflicted on a man who had no sin is sufficient. We need not die or suffer any punishment for our sins. “It is finished” Jesus said. And I believe with all my heart that IT IS FINISHED. Death is finished! Life begins! TRUE LIFE begins. Not only do we begin a new life, we begin a NEW LIFE as a CHILD OF GOD, redeemed by the Blood of Jesus Christ. What an honour!
The world continues in sin. We are unable to do much as an individual but as a CHURCH – we can do miracles - in the beautiful, wonderful and powerful name of Jesus Christ. We have the power to reach up to God and bring Heaven down. We have the power to reach out to everyone around us and continue to do the wondrous work of Christ - greater works we will do, Jesus had promised. And He is TRUTH. He does not lie. He does not flatter. He speaks the truth in love and compassion, in power and authority. All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Him. We are His. We are His hands and feet. Amen!
God has a plan – A PERFECT PLAN. His plan is to raise every child in the FAMILY of God, equip him or her for LIFE on earth. Even if many of us are suffering from the consequences of sins, WE ARE FORGIVEN and God has sent His Holy Spirit to help everyone who believes in Him to live a new life.
Let us trust God and Christ and the Holy Spirit, our Triune God - to CHANGE us and use us for His Kingdom Purposes. We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God. Let us declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. Once we were not a people, but now we are the PEOPLE OF GOD; once we had not received mercy, but now we have received MERCY. Let us see ourselves as aliens and strangers in the world. Let us abstain from sinful desires, which war against our souls. Let us LIVE such good lives among the pagans that, though they may accuse us of doing wrong, they may see our good deeds and glorify our God and Father in Heaven.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
Let us submit ourselves to every authority instituted among men. Let us show proper respect to everyone. Let us love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, and honour Him.
Let us walk in the Way of Christ. Let us exercise self-discipline and self-control, yielding to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Let us hear His Voice and follow Him.
Let us live and practice living - with Christ, in Christ and like Christ - let us start afresh today! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
