Quiet Time with Jesus – Wrestling

Tuesday, 20 March 2018

Two wrestlers are touching and gripping each other – the purpose is to win. Can you imagine how close to God Jacob was when he wrestled with God. Like Jacob, we can get very close to God too and wrestle with Him until something happens.

Three things happened to Jacob – God touched his hip; His name was changed from Jacob to Israel; He had to let go…

Do you wrestle with God? How often do you wrestle with Him?

I am reminded of a time when I was confronted and wrongly accused by a fellow Christian. My soul was so troubled that I could not break out of the thoughts flooding my mind over a long period of time. The thoughts were born out of self-justification and frustration. God allowed me to go on and on… until the hurt slowly wore off. I became too tired listening to my own voice.

Today, I can picture myself sitting in court, speaking the truth not in love but in retaliation. Before the verdict was given, I kept speaking… God, the Judge was silent. He did not question me. He did not rebuke me. He just sat and watched and listened. Who is my lawyer? Is He our Lord Jesus Christ or is he the devil who instigates trouble and accuses the brethren? We know the devil is the accuser. We know that Jesus is our advocate. He intercedes for all the saints.

This is the picture I’m seeing now: I was accusing my sister for doing wrong to me!

Can you imagine? It’s a family court, brother against brother, sister against sister, and so on. It’s also a busy court – family members fighting over their rights.

I confess that I have gone to our family court many times. The moment I was hurt by a particular person, the hurt leads to another. It goes on and the hurt goes deeper, as the relationship worsens. It’s a TRAP the devil sets for followers of Jesus Christ. When we fall into it, we are in trouble - busy arguing our individual cases and neglecting our calling!

I declare: The CHURCH is the Family of God, the Army of the Almighty, Fishers of Man and Builders of God’s Kingdom. Amen!

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Thank You for bringing me to court this morning. Suddenly, I see how foolish I have been all these years, going to court – accusing my brothers and sisters-in-Christ. Father God, I am sorry. I have wasted so much time in the Family Court! On behalf of all my brothers and sisters-in-Christ, I seek Your forgiveness. Please renew our minds!

Remind us Lord not to waste time any more. You are the Ultimate Judge of everyone on earth. You know everything. You are just. You are not like a human judge who doesn’t know the truth, who has to listen to both sides before giving the verdict. In fact, You already know things before they happen. You also know us inside out. There is nothing hidden from You. We must really STOP wasting our precious time on earth. We have a job to do. You have given us responsibilities pertaining to a particular role in the building of Your kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven, and the fundamental rule is - We are called to build Your kingdom according to Your instructions.

This is what God the LORD says – He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: “I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. (Isaiah 42:5-7)

I am the LORD; that is My name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place, and NEW THINGS I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.” (Isaiah 42:8-9)

This is the Word of God. Thanks be to God. Amen!
