Quiet Time with Jesus – Unlearn and Re-learn

Monday, 19 March 2018

When I was growing up, my sister taught me to be independent. When I was teaching in a Montessori environment, my job was to create a learning environment where children are free to choose and free to work independently. I was trained to monitor each child’s progress and facilitate his or her growth to full potential. We, Montessori teachers are directors. We give directions in a subtle way so that every child discovers his (or her) mistakes and makes corrections automatically. In doing so, the child gains confidence and independence.

When I became a Christian, my ideology was overturned. I had struggled to analyze and rationalize to see the difference between independence (in the world system) and dependence (in God’s kingdom).

A Christian can be both an independent individual and a dependent child of an Almighty God. Today, I have a better understanding of what God wants me to be i.e. totally dependent on Him, and at the same time be an independent individual in the world.

Our Awesome Creator is our Perfect Provider. He knows what we need. He knows what is best. He has a Perfect Plan. He is the Great I AM!

The Great I AM will never stop loving us. We are created to be living creatures who are able to love and be loved. That’s our fundamental nature.

The Bible says:

So do not worry saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
— Matthew 6:31-34

To depend on God with the entirety of who we are requires us to invest our time and energy only where He’s leading (Psalm 127:1). Following His lead requires believing that it’s His provision, not our own, that makes us secure (Psalm 127:2). Then, even when we plant seeds of love in tears, we will harvest with shouts of joy. Amen!

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

You are our Amazing Creator. How beautiful is Your creation – man, earth, the solar system, the stars in the sky… While we are still enjoying your beautiful creation, our planet earth is undergoing stress and destruction. Many people are mindless, careless, heartless and godless! Father God, have mercy on us!

We confess that we have not loved one another the way You have loved us. We are ‘fighting’ with one another, nations are ‘at war’ with nations, lives are threatened by hostility, anger and hatred. But we have peace. Our peace is in You. Our hope is in You. We are Your children. We have the mind of Christ. We know that You know the end from the beginning.

Father God, we are totally dependent on Your grace and mercy. You are the Great I AM, our Awesome Creator, Faithful Friend, Divine Provider, Healer, Comforter, Counsellor, Disciplinary Master, LORD and Saviour!

Hallelujah!
