Quiet Time with Jesus – Keep Watch

“It’s a great temptation to put safety and pain avoidance as our highest priorities,” wrote Winn Collier (in ‘Our Daily Journey’).

I habitually put safety and pain avoidance as priorities - never thought that it’s a temptation.

Is it not wisdom that protects us from danger and pain? I guess it all depends on whether it is God calling or man calling us - to do something [or go somewhere]. Therefore, clarity of mind is very important.

Scripture tells us that we’re called… to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for us (1 Peter 2:21).

Jesus never sinned yet He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross. He suffered extreme pain – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual… and yet He stood firm to fulfil God’s purpose. Let us be reminded that JESUS GAVE HIS LIFE FOR THE HEALING OF THE WORLD.

Apostle Peter tells us to show proper respect to EVERYONE: love the brotherhood of believers, fear God and honour the king. Peter also tells us to submit ourselves to our ‘masters’ with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, BUT ALSO TO THOSE WHO ARE HARSH. For it is commendable if a man bears up under the PAIN OF UNJUST SUFFERING because he is conscious of God.

Jesus was punished and put to death on the cross even when he had committed no sin. Even when insults were hurled at Him, He did not retaliate. Instead, He entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly. He bore our sins in His body on the cross so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness - by His wounds we are healed.

Apostle Peter tells us to ARM OURSELVES with the same attitude, knowing that the end of all things is near. He tells us to be clear-minded and self-controlled so that we can PRAY. And above all, love each other deeply because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Are you going through a painful trial?

Look unto Jesus and rejoice…

Are you being insulted because of the name of Christ?

Know that you are blessed…

If we suffer as a Christian, we are not ashamed. Instead, we shall rejoice and praise God that we bear the name of Christ in us – spirit, soul and body. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

The Bible tells us that it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God.

Do you think that the family of God will not be judged?

Read 1 Peter 4:17.

Apostle Peter tells us to MAKE EVERY EFFORT to add to our faith goodness; and to goodness knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

God did not make us robots. He gave us the ability to think and decide. God does not want us to flow with the world system [without thinking] and conforming to its standard. No! We must be self-controlled and alert. The enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. We must resist him, standing firm in the faith, because we know that our brothers and sisters throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

God promises restoration and strength. To Him be the power for ever and ever. Peace to all believers of Christ who are in Christ.
