Jesus links love and obedience: “If you love me, keep my commandments… One who has my commandments, and keeps them, that person is one who loves me” (John 14).
If we want to follow Jesus, we must stay close to Him, know Him and love Him. In the world system, we may follow instructions for fear of punishment. We may do something that everybody is doing and think that it is right. I have done things acceptable to the world but not acceptable to Jesus. It was only after many years of walking closely with Him that I realized it. Thank God for the Holy Spirit. He convicts and corrects but He does not condemn.
Jesus has promised that He will not leave us as orphans. The Holy Spirit is God’s presence with us on a daily basis in this world. It took me many years to understand what agape (love) means. It is not a sentimental feeling – not whether you like a person or not.
Jesus says: If you love me, keep my commandments.
How can we know whether we fulfil the demands of love? Jesus’ commandments require us to allow Him to RESHAPE our lives.
Apostle John tells us to walk in the light. God is light. In Him, there is no darkness at all. If we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the Blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin. John also said that IF any one of us sins, we have One who speaks to the Father in our defence. Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for our sins - not only for us but also for the sins of the whole world.
Dear Father God,
Agape is amazing. We can never fathom how much You love us. You have clearly commanded us to love one another the way You loved us. You have given us the Holy Spirit to enable us to do so. We are willing to be RESHAPED by You.
Jesus said: You are the light of the world… it gives light to everyone… let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16).
Agape is not a sentimental feeling. It is an action word. It is a response to the Holy Spirit who constantly reminds us to keep Your commandments.
Give us a humble and teachable spirit. Thank You Father God! Amen!
