The first man that God created [namely Adam] was given FREE WILL. If he was not given free will [i.e. if he has God’s will] he will be perfect. There is no doubt about it.
Adam had free will to decide. His first decision led mankind into sin, sickness and death. I can hear God’s voice, “Where are you?” Like Adam, we are where we are - not so much the place but our heart condition.
The writers of the Bible started from 'the beginning' - Genesis 1: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty.
Can you imagine the earth as a formless thing? If it is formless, what does empty look like?
Darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. (Genesis 1:2b)
As I try to imagine, I realized that ‘formless’ means that there was NO LAND. The earth was a mass of water – deep water / deep oceans. Can you imagine?
The SPIRIT of God was hovering over the waters. The Spirit of God is God.
As the Spirit hovers over the waters, God continued the creation of heavens and earth. [The writer of Genesis started with 'the Spirit'.]
John tried to start from 'the beginning'. He wrote: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. [John started with ‘the Word’.] He continued to write: Through Him (the Word) all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the ‘light’ of men.
And we read in the book of Genesis, God spoke ‘the Word’ – “Let there be light” and there was light.
And in the book of John, ‘In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.’ That is enough for me to ponder over for now...
Do you see light?
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
A Bible teacher gave this advice: “If you do not see [light] or understand something in the Bible, it is okay. It may be something God doesn’t want you to know OR it may be something God will reveal to you in the future. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher. He will guide us. He will teach us what He wants us to learn. Let us listen like Mary listened when Jesus was teaching. I believe God has a learning schedule for each disciple and one schedule is different from another.
So, are we the SAME [model] because our Maker is the same Person (a Spiritual Being who is the ‘Word’, aka the ‘Spirit’)? Or, are we DIFFERENT because our Maker ‘made a mistake(s)’…? You know what? I think the first man was the model of a man before he sinned against his Maker. He was created to 'operate' on his own free will. The first woman was the model of a woman before she sinned against God. She was created to be the man's helper. According to God's mandate, they were supposed to multiply.
Therefore, I conclude that the picture we see today is painted by ourselves... The earth is dying in our own hands... God gave Adam and Eve the responsibility and authority to reign on earth but 'they sold their birthright for a forbidden fruit' - I think I got it!
A writer wrote: What you believe about Him (God) determines your response. If you have faith in the God who called you, you will obey, and He will bring to pass what He purposes to do.
The Bible confirms my thoughts:
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is MY WORD that goes out from My mouth; IT WILL NOT RETURN TO ME VOID, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10-11)
Paul’s letter to the Ephesians: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For He chose us in Him BEFORE the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons (and daughters) through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will – to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves.
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He LAVISHED on us with ALL WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING. So, I conclude / I believe that I have redemption through Jesus’ blood. I have forgiveness of sins. Thanks be to God.
And He made known to us the mystery of His Will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfilment – to BRING ALL THINGS IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH TOGETHER under one head, even Christ.
Reading the Bible makes me hungry. There are expressions that are not crystal clear and it is dangerous to force oneself to understand when it is not the right time. Through my own life experiences, God the Holy Spirit has brought verses out from the Bible and shone His LIGHT on them – enlightening my spirit, soul and body - and I have been amazed again and again.
Therefore, I rejoice! At His time, I will understand everything that He wants me to understand and in His time, He makes all things beautiful.
Dear Father God,
In Your time, in Your time,
You make all things beautiful - in Your time.
Lord, my life to You I bring,
may each song I have to sing,
be to You a lovely thing,
in Your time.
