Quiet Time With Jesus – Fear

Wednesday, 13 February 2019

Have you ever been gripped by fear and your mind cannot think any more?

Fear is a feeling induced by perceived danger or threat that occurs in certain types of organisms, which causes a change in metabolic and organ functions and ultimately a change in behaviour, such as fleeing, hiding, or freezing from perceived traumatic events. (Source: Wikipedia)

I think no matter how brave we are or claim to be, we do experience fear in our lifetime. When I was a child, I was terrified after watching a movie – a man who lost contact with his team, were left alone in a jungle for a long time, running away from an uncivilized tribe. I think that is why I would not walk alone through the rainforest in our Singapore Botanic Gardens.

I have also experienced other kinds of fear. As I recall them, I thank God that He has always been with me. I believe He is with me now and will never leave me nor forsake me.

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

You are our Good Good Father. We look to You and we are blessed. You provide all that we need. Yes, we thank You for providing us the Armour of God and the Word of God – Ephesians 6:10-20.

We can’t go into battle with evil without Your protection. No matter what battles we face in life, we have to be prepared i.e. always put on the full Armour of God.

Apostle Paul uses the Roman soldier’s armour to describe what we need - the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit – every part is important.

Father, I pray that You teach us and give us a deeper and clearer understanding of what the Armour of God is all about, how do we ‘polish’ and make sure that every part is in perfect condition. Guide us as we ponder, pray and practice the skills of a warrior trained for battle against evil forces.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have DIVINE POWER to demolish stronghold. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT TO MAKE IT OBEDIENT TO CHRIST (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

And we declare: In all things we are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us (Romans 8:37).

Amen!
