Quiet Time With Jesus – Witness

Are you a witness for Christ? When people look at you, what do they see?

During a missions trip, I witnessed the love of God demonstrated by my friend (a sister-in-Christ). She took a wet tissue and wiped an elderly man who was lying in bed due to some kind of sickness. As she wiped she prayed and sang softly… Everyone was watching. The love of God poured out of her and overwhelmed all of us. The presence of God was unbearable!

Two days ago, I had the opportunity to describe it to my sister (who does not want to hear about Jesus). As she listened, tears welled up in her eyes.

My prayer: Dear Father God, You know my sister better than I do. I know You are constantly working in her heart. I thank You for every opportunity for me or any brother or sister in Christ to witness to her. I pray that she will have a personal encounter with you soon. Amen.

My sister started talking to me about doing good deeds and earning a good life in our next life. I just listened to what she was saying.

The Bible does encourage us to do good (Titus 3). Jesus does teach us about storing up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-24). My sister is not entirely wrong but the picture she has in her mind is different from mine. I sensed that it is not the right time to correct her thinking.

Some people like to store up a lot of things. Many animals store up food for the winter. If they don’t they will die of hunger. I have been taught to keep some money aside for rainy days. But, we do not know how much is enough. Some people also like to accumulate valuables: jewels, gold, silver, etc. They hide or keep them in a safe place. These things do not have eternal values.

I am often reminded of Jesus’ words: Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)

My prayer

Dear Father God, You are our Provider. You know what we need, how much we need, and when we need what we need. Give us wisdom to know what to do at all times. Tell us when to give, and how much to give. Sometimes, we may need to give sacrificially like Jesus gave. Father, I declare that Your will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen

Jesus said that doing the will of God is his food. I think each time we seize the opportunity to share Christ is treasure in God’s eyes. Our obedience and faithfulness will surely reap a harvest. We may not see it. We may not hear about it but these are eternal treasures stored in heaven. Nobody can take them away from us. Hallelujah! So, Father God, we ask that You open our eyes so that we can see and seize every opportunity to store up these eternal treasures in heaven. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
