Quiet Time With Jesus – Trust

Monday, 21 January 2019

Who do you trust - your spouse, your sibling, your mother, your closest friend or your boss? When a man cheats on his wife, will she still trust him? When a friend betrays you, will you still trust her? When you realize that your boss has been criticizing you behind your back, can you still trust him? Would you do the same to him?

The Bible says: Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but LEAVE ROOM FOR GOD’S WRATH, for it is written:

“It is mine to avenge: I will repay” - Deuteronomy 32:35a

says the Lord. On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.” - Proverbs 25:21,22

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. - Romans 12:17-21

Joyce Meyer: One of the most important things we need to learn is to TRUST GOD and WALK BY FAITH when people don’t treat us the way they should. Our natural response is to get angry when we’re mistreated, and feeling angry is not wrong. But God’s Word reminds us that we shouldn’t return evil for evil or anger for anger [emphasis mine].

So, the moral of the story is: Trust God, not man. Walk by faith, not by sight.

I have not been betrayed by anyone but I have witnessed betrayal. It destroys relationships.

The Holy Spirit shows me a picture – Jesus, nailed on the cross. One of His disciples betrayed Him. What was He thinking about as He endures great pain (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual)? What did He say to His Father?

Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing
— Luke 23:34

The Bible says that it is God’s plan to crush His one and only begotten Son who knew no sin…(Isaiah 53). The Bible tells us that one day, God will wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away (Revelation 21:4).

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

In Revelation 21:1, John writes of a new heaven and a new earth in the eternal state, having seen the first heaven and the first earth pass away.

We know that the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; THE ELEMENTS WILL BE DESTROYED BY FIRE. But, we are assured that even as the heaven and earth are passing away, our salvation is secure: “The heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But our salvation will last forever and God’s righteousness will never fail. (Isaiah 51:6).

Yes Lord, the world is NOT our home. We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where RIGHTEOUSNESS dwells (2 Peter 3:13). Jesus tells us to have the proper priorities: Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… But store up treasures in heaven instead. Help us Lord!

For reflection:

T - turn to God

R - rest in Him

U - Unlearn worldly principles

S - Silence self-centred thoughts

T - Tune in and listen to God
