Quiet Time With Jesus – Kindness

Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
— Proverbs 16:24

One day after worship, a sister-in-Christ whispered to me that she felt so loved by God. She said it was like honey flowing from above over her. Honey is sweet. Bees make honey from the pollen of flowers. It takes time and effort. Honey of different quality comes from different flowers. That’s nature – God’s gift to mankind.

Can you imagine the kind of honey God uses to pour over our souls? Even as a listener of my sister’s sharing, I could feel His love.

Children sometimes say cruel things to each other. Very few of us escape our school years without getting our feelings hurt over something another child said to us. I have heard a little girl call herself stupid because that’s what her older brother calls her. A young man shared about his father 'putting him down and stepping on his face' with unkind words when he was younger. It is so sad to hear these experiences from young people. How about older people? I had lost guard over my tongue many times and unkind words had slipped out of my mouth. No matter how many times I have said 'sorry' my own words still hurt me. Only the Blood of Jesus can erase those words and cleanse my mouth from filth. Thanks be to God!

My Prayer

Dear Father God

We were dead in our transgressions and sins in which we used to live when we followed the ways of this world. Your Holy Spirit is at work in us. You are rich in mercy. You made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by GRACE that we have been saved. And You raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages You might show the INCOMPARABLE riches of Your grace, expressed in Your KINDNESS to us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:1-7)

An act of kindness has consequences. IF we give money generously to someone who is an alcoholic, gambler, drug abuser… we are making the situation worse. Give us wisdom and knowledge to know how to help. Father, teach us and guide us. We love these people like You do, and we want to bring them out of their darkness into Your light. We need You Lord!

Help us to avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, arguments and quarrels about the Bible because these are unprofitable and useless. Instead, help us warn every divisive person. We, the Church of Jesus Christ, must learn to devote ourselves to doing what is good and right in Your eyes. We must stand united speaking the truth in love, in clarity and boldness, and in true kindness.

Amen!
