Quiet Time With Jesus – Seeking God Through Fasting

Tuesday, 4 September 2018

According to Jentezen Franklin (JF), fasting is a tremendous weapon and a source of power in the life of a believer.

Excerpt from JF’s book “Fasting”

Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, was in a critical situation. He was a God-fearing king who found himself surrounded by a powerful enemy army. Annihilation was certain without the Lord’s intervention. Scripture records that, “Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gathered together to ask help from the LORD; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD… Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the LORD” (2 Chronicles 20:3-4, 13).

All of Judah fasted… God spoke to His people… God set ambushes against the enemy army and defeated them. None escaped. When the people of Judah arrived, it took them three days to carry away the spoil!

If you want God to tell you what you need to do at this time of your life, fast, worship and seek Him. Press in like Jehoshaphat in times of great distress – you and your whole family…

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

Thank You Father for responding and rescuing us at our times of desperate need. I pray that all believers will get to understand the power of fasting, worship and prayer. I pray for all believers, myself included: We shall not be distracted by the things of the world; All of us shall unite in spirit and in truth, seek You with all our hearts, hear You, love You and obey You so that Your Perfect Will for the human race may be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen!

Let us reflect on why Satan tempted Jesus at the end of His fast by provoking Him to turn stones into bread. Let us remember that Jesus came to use His power to serve others, NOT HIMSELF. Father God, You have called us to FOLLOW JESUS. You have chosen us to serve others too. Indeed, I pray that Your Will be done in our lives – convict us (especially of our selfishness), change our hearts (to love like You loved) and empower us (through the Holy Spirit) to serve others wholeheartedly. When we serve others, we are serving You. Amen!

Satan knows that he is defeated. Let’s walk in the realm of God’s power. Let us not be distracted. Let us not focus more on our personal appetite or circumstances than on the Promises of God that are released when we employ the powerful weapon of giving, worshipping God, praying, fasting and listening to His still small voice. Amen!

All praise and glory to God! Amen!
