Do you have a story to tell? Everybody has amazing stories but we can be easily tempted to draw the listener’s attention to ourselves. Someone once said something that I will never forget: “When you tell your story, do not draw attention to yourself but to Him, our Lord Jesus.” These were not his exact words but I got the point: We are called to share Christ.
People today do not like to hear repetition of words/ instructions/ stories. I have been told, “You have already said that” or “You have already told me that story” or they just stop listening. I have learned to shut up and simply pray that God will speak to them.
Many young people are drawn by music and drama - if we can draw their attention to God through songs and skits, why not? Personally, I was touched by God through a song (Softly and Tenderly) and as I continue to walk with Him, words sung in songs often sound like words from my heart and words from God.
God created sound – sounds of nature (water, wind, waves), birds singing and different creatures calling/ responding… It is often therapeutic – soothing the soul. God is Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals. Hallelujah!
Jehovah is God Almighty, The Living God, The Creator of everything that exist on the universe and in the heavens. As I think about medicine, I am even more amazed because medicine is essentially ‘drugs’ – I am reminded of the story in the garden of Eden: God told Adam that he is free to eat from any tree in the garden; but must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when he eats of it he will surely die. God told Adam precisely what to eat and what not to eat. Yet, Adam ate the fruit that God told him not to eat. Today, we know that some things are harmful and yet…
Indeed, we have stories to tell and songs to sing.
Dear Father God,
Open our eyes to see the beauty of Your creation. Yes, open our eyes: we want to see You. Sharpen our ears to hear the songs of nature. Yes, sharpen our ears: we want to hear Your voice. Let us breathe in the fragrance of Your presence, feel the gentle breeze of Your Spirit and taste Your goodness. Amen!
Show us Your ways, O LORD, teach us Your paths; Guide us in Your truth and teach us, for You are God our Saviour, and our hope is in You all day long. Amen!
Show Yourself holy through us: Sprinkle clean water on us and we will be clean; cleanse us from all our impurities and from all our idols. Give us a new heart and put a new spirit in us; Remove from us our heart of stone and give us a heart of flesh. Put Your Spirit in us and move us to follow Your decrees and be careful to keep Your laws. Amen!
Father God, Your love endures forever; Your faithfulness continues through all generations. Amen!
