Quiet Time With Jesus – Godlessness In The Last Days

Friday, 21 September 2018

As a retiree, I enjoy the freedom to manage my time. I am no longer constrained by work appointments and deadlines. I am my own boss. BUT, after I accepted Christ as my Lord, I learned to submit to Him. He plans my day and directs my path.

If I am not careful, I can become uncontrollable and self-focused. So, I remind myself that there are rules to adhere to and laws to abide by. I also remind myself that I am now living in Christ, therefore I must abide by God’s laws.

In every nation, people are governed by the law. The purpose of any rule or law is to protect the people. No rule or law should satisfy the sinful nature of the majority. I repeat: No rule or law should satisfy the sinful nature of the majority. We want freedom but true freedom is not without responsibilities. Life without responsibilities is meaningless.

Through Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins and His resurrection, Jesus sets us free from the wages of sin, death and from slavery to sin (Romans 6:23). We are free from unrighteousness. We become sons and daughters of the KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. His law is not abolished. We are not free to practice lawlessness!

The Bible says: The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous (Psalm 19:7-9).

Paul made a list of godless living in the last days: lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. The Bible tells us that Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light! We are also told to beware of wolves in sheepskin. Peter tells us to be self-controlled and alert.

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

We have sinned against You through abortion, homosexuality, adultery, pornography and fornication. We have no fear of God. We are rapidly becoming pagan nations! Our only hope is repentance. We thank You for godly men: Charles Finney, D. L. Moody, Jonathan Edwards, John Wesley, Billy Sunday, William Booth, Billy Graham and many others. Waves of revival have swept across the world. But, they didn’t last long. How many Jonahs will You send to warn us?

Our only hope is repentance and reconciliation with You. Father God, open our eyes to see how sinful the world has become. Let us not be deceived any more. Open our ears to hear Your calling: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.” (2 Chronicles 7:14-15)
