God wants Christ’s followers to become catalysts in this world of darkness. A catalyst is a substance of which even a small proportion notably provokes significant change in the whole without itself being changed or consumed.
When I meditate on the effect of change provoked by a catalyst, I ‘see’ Jesus provoking significant changes wherever He goes. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change. Even after living 33 years among sinful men He was not consumed by the world around Him.
We can be easily influenced unless we build a strong foundation in Christ. How do we know when to stop drinking when we are enjoying the company of alcohol lovers? How do we know when to draw a line between playing a game and gambling when we engage in some form of sports or social game? Do we know when to stop and look to God?
About 25 years ago I had gone for dinner with my colleagues after a stressful day at work. I discovered what alcohol can do to me. Knowing my own limit, I knew when to stop. Then one evening, I turned to drinking to escape from thinking too much about a situation that I was struggling in. Initially, it worked but the taste of the drink became distasteful. I could almost hear a voice asking, “What are you doing?”
God asks us questions not because He doesn’t know what is happening. He asks because He wants us to ask ourselves the same question. He wants us to search our own hearts ourselves…
A Montessori Director (MD) does not teach but directs. A MD does not point out a child’s mistake. He repeats an activity again and again until the child learns the right way to do it. He allows the child to discover a mistake all by himself and corrects it himself. A MD must be watchful, patient and kind.
The in-dwelling Holy Spirit is like a MD. He watches and allows us to discover our own mistakes. The choice of what to do next or how to solve a problem is ours.
Dear Father God,
We are sorry that we sometimes engage in unhealthy activities. Help us Lord to discover our mistakes and turn back to You for guidance. We want to be deeply rooted in Christ so that no matter how unhealthy an environment can be, we can still stand strong in Christ.
The Bible says that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set us free from the law of sin and death. Help us to live according to the Spirit.
The Bible also tells us to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Apostle Paul tells us to put on the full armour of God so that we can take our stand against the devil’s schemes because our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Let us pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, let us BE ALERT AND ALWAYS KEEP ON PRAYING FOR ALL THE SAINTS.
