Quiet Time With Jesus – Give, Fast and Pray

Saturday, 29 December 2018

I did not fast until February 2016 when a sister-in-Christ inspired me. Five months later, my husband had a tumour removed. Treatment for cancer began. We thank God for His mercy. My husband is healed. I cannot explain how the months of fasting had helped to prepare me for the unexpected but I know that God was with me through it all.

I believe fasting is as natural as reading the Bible daily.

Jentezen Franklin: Fasting is opening the door to a deeper, more intimate and powerful relationship with God.

Jesus says,

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
— Revelation 3:20

I don’t think Jesus is referring to 'eating'.

Jesus has told His disciples, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work” (John 4:34)

I think Jesus is saying that He will be with us when we do the will of God and finish His work. Praise the Lord!

When I was inspired to fast, it was like Jesus knocking on the door of my heart. When I responded, it was like opening the door and letting him in. And when I went through helplessness and anxiety, I could hear His voice:

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
— Isaiah 43:2

Therefore, when Jesus says that He will eat with me and I will eat with Him, it means that He will be with me. I will not be alone doing God’s will and finishing the work He has for me.

In the book of Matthew, chapter 6, Jesus was teaching:

Verse 2 – when you give…

Verse 5 – when you pray…

Verse 16 – when you fast…

Jesus did not say ‘IF you give’ or ‘IF you pray’ or ‘IF you fast’ but he said ‘WHEN’ you do these things…

Therefore, I have decided that giving, praying and fasting shall be my lifestyle.

My Prayer

Dear Father God,

There is so much to learn and practice as we walk in the plan You have for us. We thank You that You guide us through it all. And as we obey Your command to go and make disciples of all nations, we know that You are always with us, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)
