Quiet Time With Jesus – Be Great

Scripture Reference: Matthew 5:17-20

When I first became a parent, I set rules for my children to obey and abide. The rules are set for their protection. Children must learn that there are consequences in everything they do.

God is pure and holy. He is faithful and just.

Jesus said,

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them.
— Matthew 5:17

Jesus also said,

Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever PRACTICES and teaches these commands will be called GREAT in the kingdom of heaven.
— Matthew 5:19

We must walk the talk!

As though what He said was not clear enough, Jesus continued,

For I tell you that UNLESS your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will CERTAINLY NOT ENTER the kingdom of heaven.
— Matthew 5:20
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
— John 14:6

I am even more amazed when Jesus continued to say,

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even GREATER things than these, because I am going to the Father.
— John 14:12

1)   Do you believe that Jesus is in God the Father and the Father is in Jesus?

2)   Can you imagine Jesus and God the Father making their home in you?

3)   Have you encountered the Counsellor (the Holy Spirit sent by God the Father to teach us all things and remind us of everything that Jesus has taught)?

My Prayer

Dear Father God

Your law is the truth (Psalm 119:142). Jesus is the incarnate Word of God (John 1:1) and the source of all truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth (John 14:17).

Give us this day (and everyday) the mind and heart of Christ so that we may truly know You and love You. Fill us with the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
