Quiet Time with Jesus – Praying Together

Thursday, 21 Sep 2017

William Cowper wrote:

Restraining prayer, we cease to fight;

Prayer makes the Christian’s armor bright;

And Satan trembles when he sees

the weakest saint upon his knees.

YL: It is GOD he fears! It is not the person praying. It is also not the ‘perfect choice of words’ that comes out of our mouths but it is more than that. The most humble prayer is like incense rising to the heavens… from our hearts to His Heart.

Imagine: Each time we pray, we are polishing our armour…

Some important questions

Is your armour put away in a cupboard, or hung up collecting dust?

When the enemy comes knocking at your door, what would you do?

Have you already allowed the enemy into your house?

Is the enemy already reigning in your household?

Jesus promised,

If two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in Heaven.
— Matthew 18:19

James Banks: The word ‘agree’ that Jesus uses is from the Greek ‘sumphoneo’, the root of our English word ‘symphony’. Our prayers together are BEAUTIFUL MUSIC TO GOD.

YL: It doesn’t matter if you are tone deaf :) God loves to hear you sing.

History

The First Great Awakening, which started in America and Britain in the 1730s, began to stir a few years earlier with Moravians in Germany praying for the spread of the gospel around the world.

The Second Great Awakening, which swept through the United States with revivals and camp meetings beginning in 1800, followed an organized effort by Jonathan Edwards to unite God’s people in prayer on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Third Great Awakening was sometimes called “The Prayer Meeting Revival” because it started with a series of meetings in New York City in 1857, which spread throughout the country and profoundly influenced lives wherever they went (including that of evangelist D. L. Moody).

Praying together takes time and patience, commitment and perseverance… It’s worth it. The best is yet to be. Let’s pray out the Will of God and watch Him move - all over the globe - like a ‘strong wind that changes the spiritual landscape’.

My Prayer

Dear GOD,

Indeed, You are mighty, awesome, and wonderful! What You can do is far beyond our imagination! We praise You! We worship You! We honour You! We thank You!

You choose our prayers as one of the main means by which Your Kingdom moves forward. Teach us how to pray!

Our adversary is already a defeated foe. The Truth is: The One who is in us “is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Amen!

You are calling us to approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16) We hear Your calling!

I see Jesus interceding for us without ceasing. How can we fall asleep? It is time we awake, arise, abide and abound in You!

Amen!

I believe God is waiting for us to pray so that He can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20)

GOD is our Good Good Father. He is waiting for us to seek HIM together so that HE can work through us and move in ways that are far beyond what we could conceive on our own. Hallelujah! Praise the LORD!
