There are many things I had liked but never had the chance to do. Right now I have the luxury to do some of them. I see friends around my age doing likewise... but, it is obvious that we have different interests. The thoughts I have may not be the same as my friends. I am thankful for many things: Thankful that I am born in Singapore, brought up in Singapore, educated in Singapore, worked in Singapore and now growing old in Singapore. I thank God for LKY. Under his leadership, I have been greatly blessed. I know that there are many people in Singapore who do not have the same thoughts but it is ok. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to go to school. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to work in a bank, pioneering a department in 1973. I am thankful that I was chosen to join a new offshore bank in 1975. In this bank I worked for 23 years. Perhaps, it is not my nature to look for greener pastures... As I reflect on what God has given me all my life, I am truly contented.
It is time to live like never before, love like never before and give, give and give... Jesus came to give... He has given... We are forgiven so that we may live... Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
I have observed that we have a distinct Singaporean mentality: the spirit of EXCELLENCE. Singaporeans strive for excellence. We work very hard to achieve excellence. At the same time, WE EXPECT EXCELLENCE - excellent service from our service providers. For example, we expect TO BE SERVED like kings and queens, princes and princesses - we see ourselves as the CUSTOMER. Nowadays, even our children are brought up seeing themselves as CUSTOMERS and their teachers are expected to serve them, satisfy their needs, answer their every call, go beyond the norm to win favour. To me, it is a deterioration of values. What has happened to respect and honour?
The Bible tells us to respect one another, honour one another... Have we put a stamp "Not Applicable" across the verses? These days children answer back continuously. Is it really giving the child freedom of speech? I am a Montessori teacher and I believe in Dr Maria Montessori's philosophy of letting a child choose within boundaries. Boundaries are important. They keep the child safe. Even at my age, I am thankful that my ABBA Father watches over me 24/7. I am thankful that the Holy Spirit speaks promptly when I step out of line. I am thankful that God gives us the FEAR OF THE LORD. It is His divine protection. It is a wonderful gift!
Dear Father God
There are so many things that I want to thank You for. There are too many things. They are countless. With a thankful heart, I just want to pray that You will continue to provide and protect us. We are Your children, saved and adopted by grace. Thank You God that age is not an issue. We are not too old to learn. We are not to proud to change. Remove our stiff necks. Uproot our rebellious nature. Change our hearts. Renew our minds. Strengthen our spirits as we continue walking with You. Thank You for the Holy Spirit who speaks in love and authority. Let us not ignore His voice. Sharpen our ears. We want to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches. We want to overcome. It is our desire to overcome. We can overcome. In Christ, we are more than conquerors. We can discern and we can exercise wisdom and faith. We can walk on water if our eyes are on You. Yes! The Name of the Lord shall be praised! Hallelujah! Amen!
