When I first heard the word ‘abound’, I had wondered what it means. I remember the times when I had no plan, no target and no motivation. I had felt terribly lost and life seemed meaningless. “What on earth am I doing here??” I asked God. But, as soon as I put my heart and mind into something, I regained stamina and strength, meaning and purpose. Whether I achieve success or not is not important because what I gain is experience. I can learn and move on.
The Bible says: From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would SEEK HIM and perhaps REACH OUT FOR HIM and FIND HIM, though He is not far from each one of us. For IN HIM we LIVE and MOVE and HAVE OUR BEING. Acts 17:26-28a.
On the cover of our church bulletin are the words: Abide in Christ. Abound in L.I.F.E. At the back are the words: Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8a
As I reflect on these words, I recall saying (during a ‘Journey With Jesus’ fellowship session) “This is the best time of my life. I am not saying that everything is fine. On the contrary, I had and I am still having many problems but the best part of it is – God is with me.”
The LORD is my Rock, my Deliverer, my Salvation, my Shield, my Shelter, my Refuge, my Healer, my Teacher, my closest Friend, my Abba Father… He is the Great I Am. Praise God!
Not only does God provide all that we need, He provides opportunities for us to: discover Him and His nature, overcome difficulties, face challenges, fight battles… He provides opportunities for us to experience grief, sorrow, pain… so that we are able to empathize and encourage one another. He provides opportunities for us to put to practice what we learn from the Bible. He provides opportunities for us to love, opportunities for us to exercise faith, opportunities for us to encounter Him intimately and receive the glory of His grace. He provides us opportunity after opportunity so that we may grow and mature in Christ, to become the beautiful and blameless bride.
Therefore, I resolve not to live the rest of my earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For I have spent enough time in the past doing what others do (those who seek to satisfy personal desires). The Bible says that I have to GIVE AN ACCOUNT TO HIM who is ready to judge the living and the dead. (1 Peter chapter 4)
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, let us continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in us to will and to act according to His good purpose. Philippians 2:12b-13
