Quiet Time with Jesus – Necessary Journey

Friday, 11 August 2017

The time now is 5:05am. I was moved to tears by Pastor Benny Ho’s teaching from the book of Habakkuk (Faith Under Fire).

Benny Ho (BH): Trials are stepping stones… they are not meant to stumble us. Respond with the new man and you will be better; Respond with the old man and you will be bitter; Don’t misunderstand the heart of God…

The thorn bird in Australia pricks itself against the thorn before it dies. In its deepest pain, it sings the sweetest song, a song sweeter than the nightingale.

Yes! Many beautiful songs have been written when the songwriter was going through his/her deepest pain…

Song: What a friend we have in Jesus; All our sins and griefs to bear; What a privilege to carry; Everything to God in prayer; O what peace we often forfeit; O what needless pain we bear; All because we do not carry; Everything to God in prayer; Have we trials and temptations; Is there trouble everywhere; We should never be discouraged; Take it to the Lord in prayer; Can we find a friend so faithful; Who will all our sorrows share; Jesus knows our every weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Story: A young man stole nuts and bolts. The authorities sent him to university to educate him. Three years later, he came back and stole the whole railway. Is this a true story? I don’t know but it makes me think about the way parents, myself included, send our children for education…

BH: The young man’s heart did not change. Education did not change his heart. Only God can change his heart. Only God can change our hearts.

My Prayer

Dear Father God, we lift up all our children to you including our adult children – change their hearts LORD, we ask in Jesus’ name.

Even for us - search us, O God, and know our hearts; test us and know our anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in us; Lead us in the way everlasting.

O LORD, I call to you; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to you. May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies. Let a righteous man strike me – it is a kindness; let him rebuke me – it is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it.
— Psalm 141:1-5

We are children of God. Our Father in heaven loves us more than we love ourselves. He knows what is best for us. The difficult times of our lives are necessary for us to go through. God watches over us. God walks with us. He will transform us if we surrender our hearts to Him.

Song: Into Your hand I commit again; With all I am for You LORD;

You hold my world in the palm of Your hand; And I am Yours forever;

Jesus I believe in You; Jesus I belong to You;

You’re the reason that I live; The reason that I sing; With all I am;

I’ll walk with you wherever you go; Through tears and joy I’ll trust in You;

And I will live in all of Your ways and Your promises forever.

I will worship; I will worship You…
