When we fast, we usually concentrate on not eating food. In the bible, Isaiah 58 elaborates the meaning of true fasting…
"Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please… ". (Isaiah 58:3b)
"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? (Isaiah 58:6-7)
God’s promise: "Then your LIGHT will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: Here am I." (Isaiah 58:8-9a)
The LORD is saying: IF YOU… IF YOU… then your LIGHT will rise in the darkness…IF YOU… IF YOU… IF YOU… then you will find your joy in the LORD… Our foundational purpose shall ground us in everything we do. Amen!
You are the same yesterday, today and forever. Your righteousness is not contaminated. Your holiness is not compromised. We must not be deceived. You have loved us with an everlasting love; You draw us with loving-kindness; You will build us up again. Yes, we will be rebuilt because we are Your children. We will come weeping / praying as You bring us together. Please forgive us as we forgive one another. Consecrate our hearts. Make us pure vessels for Your LIGHT to shine through. Amen!
This is the covenant You have made with us: You will put Your law in our minds and write it on our hearts. You are our GOD, and we are Your People. Because we all will know You, You will forgive our wickedness and will remember our sins no more. Amen!
