Quiet Time with Jesus – 4 t’s

Thursday, 16 June 2016

Jesus, FULL of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was LED by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days He was TEMPTED by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them He was HUNGRY.
— Luke 4:1-2

Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John … John knew who Jesus was and felt unworthy to baptize Him … Listen to what Jesus said,

Let it be so now; it is PROPER for us to do this to FULFILL all righteousness.
— Matthew 3:15

 Then John consented.

Matthew continued to describe what John saw and heard when he baptized Jesus in the Jordan.

Then Jesus was LED by the Spirit into the desert to be TEMPTED by the devil. After FASTING forty days and forty nights, He was HUNGRY.
— Matthew 4:1-2

As I read the above verses, I was led (by the Spirit) to notice a few words (in BOLD print here). John had the privilege to baptize the Son of God in water. It is PROPER for all to be baptized in water. That is to FULFILL all righteousness. John had the privilege to witness Jesus’ baptism in the Holy Spirit. John saw and heard. After Jesus was baptized and full of the Spirit, He was LED by the Spirit into the desert. We may not be led by the Spirit all the time or every time we find ourselves in a desert-like place – where it is like a dry and parched land - where we feel hungry and thirsty - in any country, any workplace, any home, any location … But, if we FAST (like Jesus) and are FILLED with the Spirit, we are ready to face what the devil may throw at us.

In the ‘desert’, we will face temptations. We can resist them (like Jesus did). God does not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can take. Satan could not tempt Job without God’s permission. God allows Job to be tested in ‘fire’ and Job came out as gold.

But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
— Job 23:10

Day by day, we feed on heaven’s manna (by reading the Bible and meditating on His Word). Day by day, we sit at Jesus’ feet (listening and learning like Mary). Day by day, we learn under the tutorage of the Holy Spirit. Day by day, we respond to God’s call and the leading of the Holy Spirit (like Jesus and Apostle Paul). What an exciting life we have as God’s children and warrior!

Before God sends us out into the battlefield, He trains and transforms us. He supplies us an armour. He gives us a sword. He teaches us how to fight and win a battle. When we follow His instructions, we can fight a giant (like Goliath). We know how to win (like David did).

Before God gives us sheep to take care, the Good Shepherd shows us the way. He gives us mentors and wisdom. We learn to follow as our mentors follow Christ. We learn to lead as servant-leaders. We remember Jesus’ feet-washing lesson.

My Prayer

Dear Father God, thank You for these four words – test, temptation, training and transformation – revealed to me this beautiful morning. Thank You!

Fasting is amazing - it keeps my flesh down and my spirit up. It is a time when I stop thinking about everything – STOP and SIT at Jesus’ feet (like Mary did). The most sacred place on earth is at Jesus' feet. Fasting is like entering a dry, parched land where we hunger and thirst for God. When we fast, we will be filled. Hallelujah!

When we fast and seek God in His Word, something happens (according to Jentezen Franklin). We are being cleansed by the washing with the Word. When we fast and seek God, we are being anointed with His fragrance. Our life will be like incense to Him – a pure and sweet offering rising to the heavens – a living sacrifice. Hallelujah! When we fast and seek God in His Word, we are being clothed – fit for battle. When we fast and seek God in the Spirit, we worship Him in spirit and in truth. When we fast, we keep our flesh down and lift our spirit up to God – we submit our will, dream, and desire - everything we have, everything we are – to God and God alone. We humble ourselves before Him at His throne: Father, I do not want anything that is not Your will. Father, all that You say to me, I will do. Amen! When we fast and seek You, You will fill us with Your Spirit. We will be strengthened. We will receive power to comply with Your Word and to do Your Will. Amen!

Father, You are Almighty God in Heaven! You are our Creator and Redeemer! You are our Lord and Saviour! You are Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. I love what Hudson Taylor said, “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply.” Thank You Father God for missionaries like Hudson Taylor. Thank You Father God for all missionaries out there doing Your Will. Thank You Father God for all our mentors who are pouring their lives into us so that we may follow them as they follow Jesus. Anoint them and us as we also become mentors ourselves. Thank You Father God!

Thank You Father God for our LIFE ambassadors sent by You to be a light to the nations. May we shine like You Jesus, that the world may see our deeds and know that You are the Light of the world – and we are ministers of reconciliation, fully committed and fully compliant, serving our Father God who art in heaven. His kingdom has come. We are His kingdom. His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Hallelujah! Amen!

Let’s praise Him, worship Him, thank Him, adore Him … and linger in His Presence.

NOT MY WILL BUT YOURS BE DONE. AMEN.
