Quiet Time with Jesus – When We Do Wrong

Friday, 8 April 2016

When my child failed his Secondary Two Exam and was not promoted to Secondary Three, he broke down in front of his Form Teacher. I was shaken too – by the result of his complacency and by his response to the decision made by the school.

It hurts a mother’s heart when she sees her child doing what he should not do and not doing what he should. A father has a plan for his child. A mother has a plan for her child. Parents are influenced by the systems of the world. When someone says, “My child is doing well.” What does he mean? Usually, we will hear about what the child has accomplished in studies, career and things of the world.

I believe that God allows His children to do wrong things BUT He does not leave them nor abandon them. He is always near them, protecting, watching and waiting …

I love to drink in a social setting but I do know my limit (how much my body can take). In my youth, I had turned to the bottle when I was in distress … My God was near me, protecting, watching and waiting … I remember one evening, the taste of the drink was so horrible that I suddenly remembered God and you know what? Every gloom and doom was lifted miraculously. Not everyone will have such an experience but I have heard how God had intervened when someone turned (back) to smoking …

Our God is a Personal God. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Sometimes, He allows us to do wrong things but He never leaves nor forsakes His children, just like a father or a mother who will never give up on any of his or her children. God loves ‘family’. He created Eve so that Adam and Eve can have a family. Thanks be to God!

The Word of God says,

See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.
— Malachi 4:5-6
And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous – to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
— Luke 1:17

My prayer

Dear Father God in heaven, I wonder how You feel when You see Your children go astray. It must hurt You deeply even deeper than it hurts us. As Your child, I do not want to hurt You. As the mother of Your children given to me to love, I do not want to disappoint You. Father, please help me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus. Help me know the things that are important to You - things of eternal value.

Father God, You have a plan for each and every one of Your children. I believe - Your plan is good; Your plan is perfect; We may detour from Your plan but You will draw us back to Yourself. Yes! You will. Amen.

Father, there are times we may experience pain and suffering but Father, You are near. You  protect Your children. You are watching and waiting for all Your prodigal sons and daughters to return to You. It will come to pass. Who can separate us from the love of Christ? In all our tests and trials and troubles, we are more than conquerors through Christ who loves us. And nothing is able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen.

Today, if you are praying for your children, let me assure you that He hears our prayers. He knows more than we know. He sees the end from the beginning. He loves more than we love. He is a Personal God. He is faithful. He is LORD. He is in control. Amen.
