Quiet Time with Jesus – Obey and prepare the way

Sunday, 24 April 2016

Naaman was proud and he thought the prophet Elisha was proud. But a humble servant girl spoke and Naaman ‘obeyed’ and was healed. (2 Kings 5)

John the Baptist said that Jesus is the one who comes after him, the thongs of whose sandals he is not worthy to untie. When Jesus went to Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John, John tried to deter Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You …” But John obeyed when Jesus said, "Let it be so now, it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness."

The baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist is recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

A Bible teacher pointed out that God was well pleased with Jesus even BEFORE Jesus began His ministry. And even when Jesus KNEW that the Father had put all things UNDER HIS POWER and that HE HAD COME FROM GOD and was returning to God, Jesus washed His disciples’ feet.

John was sent by God to prepare the way for the Lord – the first coming of Jesus Christ.

Who is being sent by God to prepare the way for His second coming?

I believe we are!

We call ourselves Christians. When God called, we responded. When the Holy Spirit convicts, we repent. When the Holy Spirit leads, we follow. When the Holy Spirit teaches, we learn. When the Holy Spirit empowers, we glorify God. Hallelujah!

My Prayer

Dear Father God

I pray in the name of Jesus that all my brothers and sisters in Christ shall continue to hunger and thirst for Your Word. Your Word is Truth. I pray in the name of Jesus that the Holy Spirit continues to illumine Your Word for our knowledge and understanding. It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we discover gems of truth in Your Word. All our sins have been nailed on the cross. We must not grieve the Holy Spirit.

In the name of Jesus, I pray that the Holy Spirit continues to counsel us to buy from You gold refined in the fire, so we can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so we can cover our shameful nakedness; and salve to put on our eyes, so we can see.

Those whom You love You rebuke and discipline. We look forward to the day when You will give us the right to sit with You on Your throne, just as You overcame and sat down with the Father on His throne. Hallelujah!

I hear You calling – calling us to prepare the way – for the second coming of Jesus Christ, our Lord and King.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
