Quiet Time with Jesus – fear

Monday, 21 March 2016

After dinner yesterday, I turned around to watch a small part of a Korean program on TV. People were laughing … It was a game show – participants were to put their hands into a few boxes without knowing what were inside. It was funny, watching the participants’ reactions whenever they touched something ‘scary’ … It was entertainment.

We entertain ourselves by watching someone tremble in fear!

I wonder what the devil does when he sees us tremble in fear. Does he laugh his head off?

The program reveals how the human mind works. Because of the unknown, a person starts to imagine terrible things. As the ‘excitement’ builds up, the person gets more and more frightened ... The lady on the show turned white with fear. Her reactions included screaming and running away, falling and trembling, crying and crying out for mercy …

What is fear?

Wayne Cordeiro suggested that we use the letters of the word ‘fear’ to help us remember that:

F : false

E: evidence

A: appearing

R: real

That is ‘false evidence appearing real’.

My story

In June 2010, I encountered fear. As I was seeking God for help, He asked, “Who are you?” Immediately, I heard an answer from deep inside me: “In Christ”. "What’s that?" Immediately, I understood.

My interpretation of that encounter with God

It was the Holy Spirit who asked, “Who are you?” It was my own spirit that answered, “In Christ.” It was my soul that asked, “What’s that?” We are spirit, soul and body.

When we are baptized in the Spirit, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us. When we are born again, we are born as a baby in Christ. The Holy Spirit who lives in us - feeds and nurtures, teaches and guides, comforts and counsels, convicts and corrects. He is always with us IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.

Our relationship with God depends largely on the way we respond to the voice of the Holy Spirit. How often do we yield to His voice? How often do we pretend not to hear when He speaks?

Back to my story, it happened so quickly – the question, the answer, another question, the revelation, and the departure of fear. It was amazing! I was no longer afraid. And I knew what to do next. Praise God!

My prayer

Dear Father God, I pray that all of us who are baptized in the Spirit will pay more attention to the still small voice inside us. I pray that we will learn to respond the way Jesus did whenever He was tempted.

I pray that all believers who are yet to be baptized in the Spirit desire to be baptized, and be filled with the Holy Spirit, at all times, so that all of us – the body of Christ - may be united in peace, rejoicing in love, resisting temptations, winning battles, sharing testimonies of Your love and power, and giving You ALL THE GLORY.

May the whole world see You, hear You, know You, love You, and serve You. Amen!

May the whole world know that YOU ARE GOD, that You are the Only One who loves us so, so much! Your love is amazing! Your love never, never fails!

Your will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven! Heaven and earth shall become one!

In Jesus’ name, I pray.

The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 11:15 Amen!
