Quiet Time with Jesus – His Way

Sunday, 13 March 2016

When we talk, do we gossip? Are we always criticizing? Do we grumble? Are we always complaining? Do we boast? Are we always judging?

How often do we talk about helping the poor and needy, the weak and underprivileged, marginalized and helpless, hopeless and lost, sick and homeless?

Does the compassion of Christ in us move us into action?

How often did Jesus withdraw from the crowd - to be alone with the Father? What did Jesus do when He was alone with the Father? What did Jesus do when He was rejected, humiliated, opposed …

Beth Moore: What constitutes the most bitter pill you’ve ever had to swallow? All of us have them. Compared to each other they may seem major or minor, but just as the only minor surgery is one that happens to someone else, the bitterness we feel is never minor. Unquote

Turning to the Bible, we learn that Hannah did the right thing – she wept much and prayed to the LORD (1 Samuel 1:10).

For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.
— 2 Chronicles 16:9

The Bible says that the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. Why does God do that?

No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only [Begotten Son], who is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.
— John 1:18

God wants us to know Him! It is only through Jesus Christ the Son that we can see and know God the Father.

My prayer / Our prayer

Dear Father God,

You are listening to every conversation. You hear every word spoken. Father, we don’t want to make You angry, frustrated or disappointed. We want to say uplifting things about others. Help us to offer only words that help.

Teach us how to encourage and build one another up. We want to mean what we say. But sometimes, an unkind word slip out of our mouth. So how, Lord? We want to be real. We want to be authentic Christians after Your heart. We do not want to be hypocrites!

We are Your sons [daughters], You have sent the Spirit of Your Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”

You reveal Yourself to those who fear You; You teach the teachable;

You help the meek; You strengthen the weak;

You make Your covenant known to them;

O LORD, please show us Your ways! Teach us Your paths! Please guide us in Your truth and teach us, for YOU are our God our Saviour, and our hope is in You all day long.
