Quiet Time with Jesus – God grieves

Genesis 6:1-3 (The Message)

When the human race began to increase, with more and more daughters being born, the sons of God noticed that the daughters of men were beautiful. They looked them over and picked out wives for themselves. Then GOD said, “I’m not going to breathe life into men and women endlessly. Eventually they’re going to die; from now on they can expect a life span of 120 years.”

The LORD was GRIEVED that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.
— Genesis 6:6 (NIV)
When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. But the more I called Israel, the further they went from me.
— Hosea 11:1-2a
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
— Luke 13:34
As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it.
— Luke 19:41

In Ephesians 4, 5 & 6, Paul teaches us the way of the Lord. Paul tells us not to grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom we are sealed for the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30).

We have emotions too. Do we grieve like He does?

J B Phillips: We have a God who loves. That means that we have a God who suffers.

My Prayer

Dear Father, how wrong we have been and still not realizing it, not learning, not changing … We are sorry for all the things that we have done – things that cause You to grieve. Forgive us, LORD!

Dear Jesus, reveal Yourself so that we may learn from You. Change our hearts so that we may feel what You feel; Open our eyes to see truth; Help us to be like You!

Your Word says, “If you have any encouragement from being UNITED with CHRIST, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Our attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”

And may the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus, amen!

Let us be one in spirit - yielding – our hearts to His HEART, our minds to His MIND, and our spirits to His HOLY SPIRIT, in Jesus' name I pray, amen!

To You Lord, I sing:

Here’s my heart Lord/Here’s my heart Lord/Here’s my heart Lord/Speak what is true …

I am found, I am Yours/I am loved, I’m made pure/I have life, I can breathe/I am healed, I am free …

You are strong, You are sure/You are life, You endure/You are good, always true/You are light breaking through …

You are more than enough/You are here, You are love/You are hope/You are grace/You’re all I have, You’re everything …

Here’s my life, Lord/Here’s my life, Lord/Here’s my life, Lord/Speak what is true/Speak what is true/Speak what is true … (‘Here’s My Heart’ sung by David Crowder)
