The moment when we are born, we are already ‘at war’. There is a continuing struggle in the physical, mental, moral, emotional and spiritual areas of life.
To maintain good health we must have sufficient internal strength to fight off the things that are external. God provides immunity. Our physical body is created to be able to fight this war.
To maintain a strong and active mental life, we have to ‘fight’ as we face difficulties, problems and challenges everyday. This fight produces the mental balance called thought.
Oswald Chambers (OC): Anything that does not strengthen me morally is the enemy of virtue within me. Whether I overcome thereby producing virtue, depends on the level of moral excellence in my life. But we must fight to be moral. Morality does not happen by accident; moral virtue is acquired.
Jesus: In the world you will have tribulation. He also said: In Me you will have peace. Take heart! I have overcome the world.
Jesus has overcome the world. It is only IN HIM that we can overcome the world. The 'world' includes all the physical, mental, moral, emotional and spiritual tests and trials. Let us take heart - IN CHRIST, we can overcome! Amen!
A real story: An elderly lady was expressing her sense of insecurity in regards to her ownership of an HDB (Housing Development Board) flat. I was reminded of what Jesus said in John 14: Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; I am going there to prepare a place for you. I WILL COME BACK AND TAKE YOU TO BE WITH ME. YOU KNOW THE WAY to the place where I am going.
Do you know the way?
Jesus’ reply is: I AM the way and the truth and the life. NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME (John 14:6)
Everyone has a longing. What are you longing for? A house (safety and security), money (wealth), health and happiness, success and power, position and reputation... It can be anything (or anyone) under the sun.
Song: There is a longing, only You can fill; A raging tempest, only You can still; My soul is thirsty, Lord, to know You as I'm known; Drink from the river, that flows before Your throne;
Sunrise to sunrise, I will seek Your face; Drawn by the Spirit, to the promise of Your grace; My heart has found in You, a hope that will abide; Here in Your presence, forever satisfied;
Take me deeper; Deeper in love with You; Jesus, hold me close in Your embrace;
Take me deeper; Deeper than I've ever been before; I just want to love you more and more;
How I long to be deeper in love!
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Yes God, lead me in the way everlasting. Amen! Psalm 139:23-24
