What is a covenant?
My dictionary says that it’s a contract / a mutual agreement between two parties. There is a covenant between God and man. It is already written – in the Word of God. One party has already agreed - through the death of Christ. He has already signed it - with the blood of the Lamb. It’s amazing grace!
The Party who has already agreed and signed the covenant is waiting…
My teacher said, “Waiting for God to act is fleshly unbelief.” As I ponder over this statement, I began to understand.
What are we waiting for? God has already acted. The Bible records what He has done, what He is doing and what He will do. He has made it clear. Many are still living in their fleshly unbelief.
When I was greatly troubled (about 8 years ago), God spoke almost audibly: Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6a). I had felt so convicted. I repented.
A strong relationship between 2 persons is usually built on trust. For me, trust is established through observation and evidence of the other person's actions. It is like saying, “You have to prove yourself first, then I will trust you.” That is the way we look at and relate to one another in the flesh. Building a strong relationship with God is different. We simply believe what He has done. It’s written in the Bible. We simply believe that He is doing something. Many things cannot be seen. Something is happening in the spiritual realm. He may reveal it if we ask Him.
The future is written in the Bible. Do you believe?
“Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.” Isaiah 65:17-19
God promises much more. It is written in the Bible. God knows the limitation of our carnal mind. So, He gives us a Helper. Thanks be to God!
Dear Father God,
Year after year, we celebrate Christmas. The world is filled with joyous celebration. The year is coming to an end.
Father God, I thank You for the opportunity to encounter many new things this year. I know You have many more new things waiting for me to encounter. I have entered into an agreement. I will do my part.
Holy Spirit, please guide me step by step as I continue to work out my part of the Best Covenant – the New Covenant between God and man, agreed at the cross and signed in blood.
Immanuel – God with us. It has come to pass. Amen.
